The message indicates that you are trying to assign the VXB connection type which is for a joint in a
vertical brace. Whether assigning the VXB or an HXB connection a node is required where the braces

intersect. The main problem in your file is that there is also a beam present (6 members from the
central node) and we don't have a horizontal brace type connection for that yet.

Anyway, I did a test deleting the beam to obtain only 4 members from central node and still the
error persists. In addition, the message says that it is a VXB connection but actually I select
HXB type connection.

Something appears to be broken.  I'll pass it along to our developers for confirmation.

Horizontal bracing connections require that the members be assigned a “Member

Attribute” to designate them as “brace” members.   To do this select the members, go to
Beam Tools -> Add Attribute, choose attribute name MEMBTYPE, and attribute value
BRACE like this:

Once this is done, the HXB connection will work.

One thing we’ve found, however, is the process of assigning member attributes has
problems.  For example, in this model whenever I tried I got a message saying “no
member selected” and ended up having to manually write the command into the Editor:

The updated STAAD file is attached if you want to take a look.
