Unit 6 Vocabulary/ Postulates Theorems

1. Ratio - the quantitative relation between two amounts showing the number of times one
value contains or is contained within the other.

2.Extended Ratio - compares more that two quantities and is expressed in a form a : b : c :
d.

3.Proportion - a part, share, or number considered in comparative relation to a whole.

4.Similar Polygons - are two polygons  with the same shape, but not the same size

5.Perimeters of Similar Polygons Theorem - The ratio of the perimeters is the same as

the scale factor.

6.Areas of Similar Polygons Theorem - is the same as the ratio of the perimeters.
7..  Angle-Angle Similarity - If all of the corresponding pairs of angles in two figures are
congruent, then the figures are similar.

8. Side-Side-Side Similarity (SSS~) Theorem - By definition, two triangles are similar if all
their corresponding angles are congruent and their corresponding sides are
proportional.

9.Side-Angle-Side (SAS~) Theorem - states that if two sides in one triangle are
proportional to two sides in another triangle and the included angle in both are
congruent, then the two triangles are similar.

10. Triangle Proportionality Theorem - If a line parallel to one side of a triangle

intersects the other two sides of the triangle, then the line divides these two sides
proportionally.

11. Converse of the Triangle Proportionality Theorem - If a line divides two sides of
a triangle proportionally, then it is parallel to the third side.
12. Triangle Angle Bisector Theorem -  concerned with the relative lengths of the two
segments that a triangle's side is divided into by a line that bisects the opposite angle.
