Assignment: Why fast-food and snacks are harmful to human health.”

What happens when you eat fast food?

What you eat and drink each day effects your health and wellbeing, both physically
and mentally. Good nutrition, along  with regular exercise will help you maintain a
healthy weight, while reducing your risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease.
However, consuming regular amounts of fast and junk food will impact your quality
of health, and will have negative effects on your body.

The term “fast food” generally refers to food that people intend to consume quickly,
either on- or off-site. There is plenty of well-researched evidence demonstrating the
various negative health effects of eating and overeating fast food, in both the short-
and long-term.

The Negative Side Of  Snacks And Fast Food

Junk foods are food and drinks with low nutritional value (e.g. vitamins, minerals and
fibre) and high in kilojoules, fat, sugars and/or salt. On the other hand, fast foods are a
type of food you get from a restaurant designed to be delivered to you in the quickest
way possible. Some fast foods can be healthy, but typically most fast foods are junk
food. For example, salad, sushi and sandwiches are healthy forms of fast food.
However, most fast food restaurants, such as McDonalds or KFC serve unhealthy junk
food.  In Australia, 35% of an average adult’s daily energy intake and 41% of
children’s daily energy intake comes from junk food.
While the occasional night of junk food won’t hurt much, eating Junk foods regular
has been shown to lead to increased risks of obesity and chronic diseases.
Cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and some
cancers all have causes in excessive junk food consumption. Further, the specific
content of many fast foods can have negative side effects for your body;
• Fast-food high in sodium can lead to increased headaches and migraine
• Junk food high in carbs can trigger outbreaks of acne
• Eating excessive amounts of junk food may increase your risk of depression
• The carbs and sugar in fast foods can lead to dental cavities
• Fried foods are filled with trans fats which raise LDL cholesterol levels
• Fast food is filled with empty carbohydrates, which can lead to increased blood
sugar and insulin resistance
• Increased sodium levels can lead to your body retaining excessive water,
leading to bloating
Other Impacts of Fast-Foods &. snacks.

Junk food is the easiest way to gain unhealthy weight. The amount of fats and sugar in
the food makes you gain weight rapidly. However, this is not a healthy weight. It is
more of fats and cholesterol which will have a harmful impact on your health. Junk
food is also one of the main reasons for the increase in obesity nowadays.
This food only looks and tastes good, other than that, it has no positive points. The
amount of calorie your body requires to stay fit is not fulfilled by this food. For
instance, foods like French fries, burgers, candy, and cookies, all have high amounts
of sugar and fats. Therefore, this can result in long-term illnesses like diabetes and
high blood pressure. This may also result in kidney failure.

Summary/Conclusion
Fast food tends to be high in salt, sugar, saturated fats, trans fats, calories, and
processed preservatives and ingredients.
A lot of well-conducted research has proven the negative health effects of consuming
too much of these.
Not all fast food is bad, however. Some menu items might be lower in these
substances than others, while some fast food outlets might focus on providing more
healthful options.
However, this is not the case for the majority of fast food outlets, or the majority of
food items they sell.
To preserve health, a person should try to identify fast food items that contain less
salt, fat, sugar, and total carbohydrates and generally try to restrict the amount of fast
food they consume.
