Aeralis Teams With Atkins, Siemens On Jet Trainer

LONDON—UK aerospace startup Aeralis has established teaming agreements with engineering consultancy Atkins and German technology
giant Siemens to contribute to the development of its modular jet training aircraft. 

Siemens will provide software applications to aid the creation of Aerside, Aeralis’ digital system which will be used for aircraft design,
production, and assembly simulation as well as maintenance, support modeling and training. 

Meanwhile, Atkins will act as engineering delivery partner.  The consultancy will help with recruitment, safety assessments, specifications,
integration and certification. Atkins will also provide specialists in human factors to develop the Aeralis platform’s cockpit human
performance data assimilation process. 

The partners will back Aeralis’ effort to fly a pre-production example of its modular training aircraft before 2025. 

Aeralis’ plans, which have also captured the interest of the UK Royal Air Force’s Rapid Capabilities Office, call for the development of a family
of training aircraft built around a common core fuselage, open architecture avionics, and a digital approach to assurance and certification. The
fuselage could be equipped with different engines or different wings, depending on the nature of the training or the desired mission of the
aircraft. The aircraft’s software will enable it to adapt to different configurations. 

“This enterprise relies upon a solid foundation of digital infrastructure and innovative engineering support, and represents a significant step
forward in aircraft development,” Aeralis CEO Tristan Crawford said.

“We are excited to be partnering with Atkins and Siemens in this endeavor, utilizing a deep well of resources and support to redefine modern
jet design,” he added. 

Aeralis revealed it was in negotiations with digital enterprise systems and engineering providers earlier this year. 

The startup is yet to announce who will provide propulsion; the system is expected to make use of both business jet and military engines.
