PROBLEM 1
An infinite slope is purely cohesive soil has a
saturated unit weight of 20kN/m3 effective
cohesion of 48kPa. It has a slope of 18. The clay
has a depth of 5m over ledge rock. Depth clay is
measured vertically.
a) Compute the factor of safety against
slippage.
b) Compute the critical depth of the infinite
slope.

Cohesion of soil = 25kN/m2
Unit weight of soil = 18kN/m3
Angle of slope = 45
a) Compute the height of the slope for critical
equilibrium.
