AutoCad Civil 3D

AutoCAD Civil 3D is one of the most used programs in the industry and one of the best

civil engineering software courses for 3D modeling of structures. It is a civil engineering drafting

software with a multitude of design, analysis and simulation tools for civil engineering design. It

supports BIM (Building Information Modeling) workflows with integrated features to improve

drafting, design, and construction documentation. If we’re talking high level, we use CAD to

create sets of plans known as construction documentation. From polylines to feature lines, pipe

networks to profiles, Civil 3D’s range of tools will allow you to create innovative and detailed

designs. With the AutoCAD Civil 3D, it is easy to understand project operations, maintain

relevance in processes and data, and it gives a super-quick response to your changes.

These projects fall under the three main categories of land development, water, and

transportation projects; and can include Construction Area Development, Structural Engineering,

Road Engineering, River Dam Development, Harbor Port Construction, Canals, Embankments,

and much more.

Uses
Civil 3D is creative software used by Civil engineers and Architect professionals to plan,

design, and manage civil engineering projects. AutoCAD Civil 3D is designed for people who

have land surveys and a Civil Drafting/Drawing background. The dynamic design operations of

the software permit faster development of alternatives via model-based design tools. AutoCAD

Civil 3D helps you to organize project data, create and analyze surfaces, create block layouts,

road corridors, and layout of networks. Civil 3D is used for the following:

a) Grading Optimization for Civil 3D

2
Conduct grading design studies based on project constraints. Grading

Optimization is available in Civil 3D only as part of the Architecture, Engineering &

Construction Collection where we can:

 Automate time-consuming grading tasks.

 Explore alternatives to achieve an optimal grading solution.

 Return the selected grading proposal to Civil 3D for detailed design.

b) Project Explorer for Civil 3D

Transform how you navigate, visualize, and interact with Civil 3D design models.

Project Explorer is an extension available in Civil 3D only through the Architecture,

Engineering, and Construction Collection.

 Simplify design review and modification.

 Efficiently validate that design objectives are met.

 Automate custom report and table generation

c) Workflows

Use Civil 3D with other Autodesk software by:

 Civil 3D + InfraWorks + Revit. Integrated bridge analysis and design.

 Civil 3D + ReCap Pro. Further enhance 3D modeling and designing in Civil 3D

by using reality capture data from ReCap Pro.

 Civil 3D + InfraWorks + Revit + Navisworks. Improve site and building design

coordination with shared coordinate systems.

Functions

Civil 3D software is a powerful, mature, civil engineering application designed to

significantly increase productivity, save time, and decrease costs. It uses an industry-proven

dynamic engineering model that maintains intelligent object relationships. A change made in one

place instantly updates your entire project, helping your complete transportation, site, sewer,

storm drain, and subdivision projects faster and more accurately. All team members work from

the same consistent, up-to-date model, so they stay synchronized throughout all project phases,

including survey, design, drafting, reporting, analysis, and visualization. Enhanced consulting,

training, third-party developer products, and application development tools form a powerful

enterprise civil engineering solution.

With Civil 3D software, your organization can standardize on one powerful product for

all of its civil engineering design, drafting, and GIS needs. Reduce training and support costs,

simplify licensing and subscription renewals, minimize data translation requirements, and

substantially improve the quality of your deliverables with one powerful solution.

Features

It is a civil engineering design and documentation software wherein we can experience more

efficient workflows for surface modeling, corridor modeling, site design, storm and sanitary, and

plan production and documentation. This software includes the following features:

a) Collaboration for Civil 3D. It securely accesses Civil 3D files, data shortcuts, and xrefs

from multiple locations and companies, all in a common data environment.

b) Connector for ArcGIS. It streamlines the flow of data between ArcGIS and Civil 3D. It

also accesses the latest data and keep features information up to date.

4
c) Dynamo for Civil 3D. It enables the use of the Dynamo visual scripting environment to

develop routines that automate repetitive design tasks and expedites workflows.

d) Bridge Design. It coordinates workflows more efficiently across the various disciplines

working on complex bridge design projects.

e) Pressure Network. Use enhanced tools for more efficient pressure pipe network layout

and design.

f) New Transit and Rail Design Features. Expanded toolkit for transit and rail design

including spirals, dynamic alignments, profiles, and superelevation design.

g) Surface Modeling. It has Point clouds which enables the use and display point cloud data.

It has a surface creation from point cloud data that allows us to create TIN surfaces from

point cloud data and a design surface creation which uses tools to create dynamic

surfaces.

h) Site and Survey. It includes Parcel design that has an automated parcel design tool,

terrain models for grading and enables us to obtain feature lines from a surface or relative

to a surface, so feature lines update with changes to the surface.

i) Corridor Modeling. It includes tools for corridor modeling, brings new roundabout

designs into Civil 3D, and extract corridor feature line workflow easily by extracting

multiple feature lines.

j) Storm and Sanitary. It includes gravity pipe networks, tools for sanitary and storm

drainage systems, Storm and Sanitary Analysis software, Dynamic models enable

stormwater management, and analyze gravity networks that measure pipes and inverts to

HEC-22 2009 standards.

5
k) Plan Production and Documentation. Enables us to plan and profile sheet generation,

create plan/plan and profile/profile sheets by including multiple plan or profile views on a

single sheet, extract and report material volumes and analyze quantities from materials

and sectional or profile information, generate annotated production plans, create and

share data shortcuts for corridors, create professional-quality visualizations, and import

and export AutoCAD solids to IFC files.

Extended 3D analysis of Building Systems (ETABS)

ETABS (Extended 3D analysis of Building Systems) is a product of Computers and

Structures Inc. It is an engineering software that is used in construction. It has highly efficient

structure analysis and design programs developed for catering to multi-story building systems. It

is loaded with an integrated system consisting of modeling tools and templates, code-based load

prescriptions, analysis methods, and solution techniques. It can handle the largest and most

complex building models and associated configurations. This software is embedded with CAD-

like drawing tools with an object-based interface and grid representation. The innovative and

revolutionary new ETABS is the ultimate integrated software package for the structural analysis

and design of buildings. It offers a single user interface to perform modeling, analysis, design,

and reporting. There is no limit to the number of model windows, model manipulation views,

and data views.

Microsoft Project

Microsoft Project is Microsoft’s project management tool. It is a project management

software product, developed and sold by Microsoft. It is similar to Microsoft Office, specifically

Excel, with its user interface, making navigating the program easy. It is a software for project

planning and project management/ construction planning/ project planning. Scheduling is very

important when it comes to managing engineering projects. It was first commercially available in

1984. The first version for Windows was released in 1990. The next year, Microsoft created a

Mac version of Project, but it was quickly discontinued and by 1994 was no longer being sold to

the public. Currently, Microsoft Project isn’t compatible with Mac computers, but there is a

workaround if you need to run MS Project for Mac.
