Post-millennial View

Most of the book of Revelation is and

culminated at the fall of Jerusalem in 70 A.D.

We are now the millennial reign of Christ and will evolve

into a “new heaven and a new earth.”

Things will continually get until Christ comes to

reign personally. The thousand years is a

analogy and not necessarily a literal 1000 years.

Pre-millennial View

this earth. It is a event

that will be preceded by a seven year period, known as the

(Dan 9:27 NIV) He will confirm a covenant with many for one 'seven.' In
the middle of the 'seven' he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on
a wing of the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation,

Revelation 20:1-10 (NIV)

And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his
hand a great chain. 2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and
bound him for a thousand years. 3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over
him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. Af-
ter that, he must be set free for a short time. 4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who
had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded be-
cause of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the
beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came
to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life un-
til the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those
who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will
be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years. 7 When the thou-
sand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the
nations in the four corners of the earth--Gog and Magog--to gather them for battle. In number
they are like the sand on the seashore. 9 They marched across the breadth of the earth and sur-
rounded the camp of God's people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and de-
voured them. 10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur,
where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night
for ever and ever.

Revelation 6:12 (NIV)

I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun
turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood
red, 13 and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree
when shaken by a strong wind. 14 The sky r eceded like a scr oll, r olling up,
and every mountain and island was removed from its place. 15 Then the kings of
the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every
free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16 They called to the
mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on
the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For the great day of their
wrath has come, and who can stand?"

Revelation 7:3-4, 9-10, 13-14 (NIV)

"Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of
the servants of our God." 4 Then I heard the number of those who were sealed:
144,000 from all the tribes of Israel. ...9 After this I looked and there before me
was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and
language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing
white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out
in a loud voice: "Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the
Lamb." ...13 Then one of the elder s asked me, " These in white r obes--who are
they, and where did they come from?" 14 I answered, "Sir, you know." And he
said, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed
their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Suffering and Judgment

2 Thess 1:4 (NIV) Therefore, among God's churches we boast about your persever-
ance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring. 5 All this is evi-
dence that God's judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of
the kingdom of God, for which you ar e suffer ing. 6 God is just: He will pay
back trouble to those who trouble you 7 and give relief to you who are troubled,
and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in
blazing fire with his powerful angels. 8 He will punish those who do not know God
and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with ever-
lasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty
of his power 10 on the day he comes to be glorified in his holy people and to be
marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you
believed our testimony to you.

• The uncertainty of the of His arrival

• The fact that no stands between

the believer and that hour

Arguments

• The Lord is – they were expecting Him

at any !
• They were waiting – “Come, O Lord!” – if
persecution or wrath were involved why “eagerly wait?”

Answers

The Lord is near:

• Jesus coming is in the same way the prophets pro-

claimed the Day of the Lord is near
• There are prophecies that have to take place the
Day of the Lord and so the Day of the Lord is NOT imminent
They were eagerly waiting:
