Calibrate a Temperature Probe

I. UNDETOOK A COLD CALIBRATION OF THE YES/NO/NOT COMMENT


TEMPEERATURE PROBE APPLICABLE

Mixed ice and water in a small container (such


as a glass or jug)
Allowed mixture to sit for five minutes to chill
water to 0°C
Inserted probe of thermometer into chilled
water for at least 10 seconds or until reading
was stable.
Noted reading (which on an accurate
thermometer will show a temperature between
-1°C and +1°C)

II. UNDERTOOK A HOT CALIBRATION OF THE TEMPERATURE PROBE

Boiled water in a saucepan.


Inserted probe of thermometer into boiling
water using pliers (or similar – for safety
reasons) for at least 10 seconds or until reading
was stable.
Noted reading (which on an accurate
thermometer will show a temperature between
99⁰C and 101⁰C)

III. COMPLETED “FOOD THERMOMETER CALIBRATION RECORD” OR SIMILAR

Verified correct record was being completed.

Entered date of calibration.

Identified the temperature probe being


calibrated.
Entered temperature thermometer displayed in
ice water test.
Entered temperature thermometer displayed in
boiling water test
Added “Corrective Action” taken only if prove
was not accurate to +/ - 1 degrees Celsuis
