Summary

Music is used as a communication tool by human beings as well as in nature.

One of the most beautiful examples is street vendors, marketers, sellers. They
call their customers with different melodies, almost creating their own brands
with their voices. In this workshop, we will experience the most practical form
of elemental music, starting with the street vendors of Istanbul 100 years ago.

Workshop: SOUNDS OF STREET VENDORS

İdeas

• İt’s a kind of elemental music and elemental way of life. Simple, only buy what you want ☺
• İt connects people with music
• İt has a specific target to use sound and music (to sell something)
• İt’s open to create very original and personalised styles of music ( vendor’s melodies are like a brand)
• İt’s local and at the same time universal

Game Instructions

• The children sit in a circle except for the one who's "It". She goes
around the outside of the circle holding a handkerchief while everyone
sings the song. Finally, she drops the handkerchief behind a child. That
child has to pick up the handkerchief and chase the one who's "It"
around the circle until the one who's "It" takes the 2nd child's spot. If
the one who's "It" is caught first, she continues being "It".
