Experiencing the fullness of the Holy Spirit

Isaiah 44:3 For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and floods on the dry ground; I will pour
My Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your offspring.

Ezekiel 36:27 I will out My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will
keep My judgments and do them.

God has chosen to express Himself to mankind as Father, as Son, as the Holy Spirit. These are
the expression of three distinct persons (personalities) yet Three are One.

1. The Father – the fullness of the Godhead invisible John 1:18


2. The Son – the fullness of the Godhead manifested John 1:14
3. The Holt Spirit – the fullness of the Godhead operated I Corinthians 2: 9 -10

Our salvation comes from the Father through the Son and by the Holy Spirit. I John 5:7
The Holy Spirit is the 3rd person of the Godhead.

1. Receiving the Holy Spirit


a. A gift is defined as “an offer and acceptance” (act of receiving) without
consideration.
b. A gift is not completed until someone receives that which freely offered.
1. The Holy Spirit, to whom who believes in Him, should receive. John 7:39
2. Receive ye the Holy Spirit. John 20:22
3. And ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38
4. He said unto them, have you received the Holy Spirit since ye believed? Acts 19:2

2. Being anointed with the Spirit


a. The “anointing” is a term with which we are very familiar, because of its use:
a. Priestly anointing
b. Kinlly anointing
b. This particular phrase is used to describe the Spirit upon Jesus Christ.
c. The word Christ means “the anointed one”. Acts 10:38

c. Being filled with the Spirit


a. This phrase describes the effect which the Spirit has within believers.
b. They are filled with the Spirit! It is employed on the day of Pentecost. Acts
2:4
c. The process of being filled with the Spirit by an initial infilling.
d. There are subsequent experiences of being filled.
e. Thus, the process is an ongoing one. Ephesians 5:18
Employing is continuous tense.
f. In order to maintain the fullness of the Spirit, we need to drink daily from the
source of supply.
4. Being baptized in the Spirit
a. This is somewhat controversial phrase which nevertheless has firm scripture
backing. It occurs four times in the Gospel and twice in the book of Acts.
Matthew 3:11
Mark 1:8
Luke 3:16
John 1:33
Acts 1:5
Acts 11:16
b. To baptize means to thoroughly immerse or to submerge into.
c. To be baptized in the Spirit, therefore is to be immersed, submerged or buried.
Completely surrounded by, enveloped wholly by the Holy Spirit.

5. The release of the Holy Spirit


a. This is a term which is not actually employed in the New Testament. It is
definitely implied therein. It describes the release of the human spirit which takes
place when the human spirit made alive by the Holy Spirit.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is
freedom (release) II Corinthians 3:17
b. It is the release of our personality from bondage into liberty, from dryness into
rivers of living water, from barrenness to fruitfulness. It surely describes the
release of rivers of living water from within the spirit of the believer. John 7:38
c. This probably describes most accurately what transpiring today among so many
thousands of believers. Hence this concept is finding intensing acceptance within
the church.
