ACTIVITY 1 : True or False

1. Genes and the making of genetically modified organisms are the study interests of ecologists.

True

2. Genetically modified organism and how they perform in the natural environment, is a focus of
interest of ecologists.

True

3. Aquatic ecosystem is independent terrestial ecosystem.

True

4. All layers of atmosphere are parts of the biosphere.

False

5. All living organisms like man functions as a system.

True
ACTIVITY 2

1. Why can we use term community and ecosystem interchangeably?

Because an ecosystem describes all the living organisms (biotic components) with their physical
surroundings (abiotic components) in a given area. A community describes only the living organisms
excluded the non-living organisms and their interactions with each other.

2. What role do decomposers play in the ecosystem?

Decomposers play a vital role in ecosystem by breaking apart dead organisms into simpler inorganic
materials, making nutrients available to primary producers and aside from that they serves as fertilizers
to all living organisms like in plants and also it uses for development of the soil or land.

3. Why are all heterotrophs dependent on plants for energy needs?

Because heterotrophs needs a photosynthesis which is the only thing it sustains the organisms that
heterotrophs consume in order it to stay alive. Even if a heterotroph is comes as carnivorous and does
not eat plants, it must eat animals that eat plants to survive which animals serves as their food to
provides both the energy to do work and photosynthesis serve as their carbon to build bodies.

ACTIVITY 3 : Fill in the blanks

1. Energy from the sun - primary producers - herbivores - secondary consumers or predators - top
predators

2. Trophic Levels has one-way flow in the ecosystem.

3. Human are part of the Grazing food web.
