Activity 1: True or False

2. True
3. True
4. True

Acrivity 2:
In 1995 there were approximately 1.6 million live birth in the Philippines. If total
population at midyear of the same year was 69.45 million, calculate the crude birth rate. Write
your solution below.
Formula: Crude birth rate=Number of birth/midyear total population X 1,000
Solution: Crude birth rate= 69.45 X 1,000
Crude birth rate= 69,450 million

Activity 3:
Identify the type of survivorship curve of the following.
a. Cogon grass- Type I
b. Monkey- Type I
c. Dove- Type III
d. Elephant- Type II
e. Bangus- Type II
f. Locust- Type III

Activity 4:
Discuss the potential implication of exotic organisms to the local population with the same food
and habitat.
Answer: The interaction between organisms striving for the same limited resource is called
competition. Such interaction may adversely affect the reproducti on, growth, and survival of
one or both competitors.
The range of conditions where an organism can live and reproduce freely without interference
is called fundamental niche. This may occur only in an ideal condition like for example, in a
controlled greenhouse environment or a bacterial culture in a petri-dish. In nature, organisms
cannot occupy all favorable space because other species are always around, affecting one
another.
The specialization of food and environmental requirements contribute to the success of
a population. If a population has no unique niche, it may soon perish from compitetion.
