Socio-economic issue in the country that needs more attention from the government

Corruption in the Philippines
Corruption is best describe as the abuse of entrusted power for private gain like health
care and education. It can cost your livelihood, your rights, your health, your freedom and rule of
law. It erodes political rights and government morale. The prospects of a healthy environment
and a sustainable future are also affected by corruption.
Corruption is one of the biggest problems facing the Philippines. In the Philippines, the
reason why corruption exists is that many officials want to get rich in a very simple option. They
get money designated for the country's improvement. The Philippine treasury will suffer as this
happens, the most that can be used for the country's development and then the Philippines will
borrow funds from other nations to fulfil the needs. As the country continues to borrow funds,
the needs that result in poverty, abandoned projects, and economic losses will still be lacking.
Marcos, Estrada and Arroyo are the most crooked politicians in the Philippines. Ferdinand
Marcos, who ruled the Philippines from 1972 to 1986 as a leader, is known for his thousands of
violations of human rights, as well as his massive corruption. And at a time when the Philippines
was spiraling into stagnation and a debt crisis, he and his wife Imelda became shameless,
symbolized by the 2,700 pairs of shoes and lavish shopping sprees of Imelda. The Marcos family
looted US$5 billion-$10 billion, according to sources provided by the Presidential Commission
on Good Government (PCGG). The PCGG also claimed that the Marcos family lived a decadent
lifestyle between 1965 and 1986, stealing away billions of dollars from the Philippines.
Corruption is a pervasive disease that kills our nation and ruins many Filipinos' lives.
There are ceratin solutions in the philppines to fight corruption. First is to vote wisely. In order to
stop corruption, at its birth, that is, during elections, we must begin to eradicate it. Poverty is one
of the most reason for selling one’s vote.  Vote buying encourages poor government and
undercuts the right of voters to keep their elected officials accountable. Second is to improve
integrity in our justice system. Our rules, on their own, endure injustice because they are not
respected and protected in the first place by the authorities who should protect them. Typically,
corrupt politicians and elected officials aren't sent to prison.
