Pakistan has had three constitutions since independence in 1947. The first constitution was introduced in 1956 under Prime Minister Chaudhary Muhammad Ali and established Pakistan as an Islamic republic. This constitution was dissolved in 1958. The 1962 constitution granted more powers to the president and strengthened the Islamic Council. However, this was seen as too authoritarian and led to unrest. In response, the 1973 constitution established a parliamentary democracy with a bicameral legislature and prime minister as head of government. This constitution remains in place today.

(Quran and Sunnah). The same year Iskander Mirza became the president of Pakistan and he seize the Government of Pakistan. He dismissed 4 elected Prime Ministers in two years. Under the force of political faction, he dismissed the Pakistan’s constitution in the year 1958. Pakistan’s 1962 Constitution General Ayub Khan dismissed President Mirza to save the country and became the president. He appointed a constitution Commission under Chief Justice Muhammad Shahabuddin. The constitution was made before 8-January 1961 but was upheld to pass on 8-june 1962. Its features include more powers to President and strength to Islamic Council. One man one vote was implemented in the overall nation for the first time. Pakistan’s 1973 Constitution The Constitution of 1962 was a one man show of president Ayub Khan. The political Parties did not agree with this type of Authority. The ministry had no power. This led to people’s problems and constitutional Crises in the year 1970. After Bangladesh formation in 1971, and PPP’s government was formed, president Zulfikar Ali Bhutto called a constitutional Convection Meeting in 1972. Leaders and constitutional experts of the Islamic political parties, conservative parties, socialists and communist parties were delegated to attend the constitutional convention in 1972. The meeting drafted and changed the existing Constitution and a new constitution was brought on 19-April-1973. The Constitution ultimately established a bicameral Parliament, with the National Assembly as the lower house and the Senate as the upper house. Also established the parliamentary form of government with Prime Minister as its head of government; the elected National Assembly genuinely representing the will of the people. The 1973 constitution is followed at present in Pakistan. Cover page Preamble of Pakistan
