Automotive electrical components manufacturer Lucas TVS and 24M Technologies, a developer of
next generation lithium-ion battery technologies on Tuesday announced the signing of a license and
services agreement to construct one of the first Giga factories in India using 24M’s disruptive
SemiSolidTM platform technology.

Lucas TVS will be the first to introduce SemiSolidTM lithium-ion batteries produced in India and
specifically designed for the Indian market.

The first plant with world class safety standards will be set up in Thervoy Kandigai, Gummudipundi
near Chennai and Lucas TVS expects to build other plants throughout India to support the growing
energy storage, electric mobility and lead acid battery replacement markets.

“Lucas TVS believes in investing in the next-generation technologies, which is why we chose to
partner with 24M,” T.K. Balaji, Chairman and Managing Director, Lucas TVS said. “We are confident
that their innovative SemiSolidTM platform technology will enable us to provide our customers
affordable e-mobility, lead acid battery replacement and storage solutions with improved quality and
best-in-class safety.”

The Chennai plant is expected to begin commercial production in second half of 2023. Based on the
aggressive targets set by the government in the renewable energy and Electric Mobility space, Lucas
TVS plans to grow the capacity of the plant to a globally competitive scale of 10 GWh in two stages,
the company said in a statement.

24M’s SemiSolidTM platform has significant benefits as compared to conventional manufacturing

processes. The process, protected by more than 80 issued and 100 pending patents, offers a
significantly simpler process flow reducing capital costs substantially. The SemiSolidTM technology
enables the production of a thicker electrode, increasing energy density and reducing materials
costs.

“Our innovative SemiSolidTM technology and ongoing R&D investments will support Lucas TVS’s
ambition to become a leader in the energy storage space for mobility, lead acid battery replacement,
storage and grid scale markets in India," Naoki Ota, Chief Executive Officer of 24M said.

The SemiSolidTM platform offers innovative solutions to the fast-growing storage and electric
mobility markets and the emerging lead acid battery replacement markets and is already seeing
large capacities being planned globally in Japan, ASEAN, Europe, East Asia and the US.

Lucas TVS plans to build products using different chemistries, in Pouch and Prismatic cell formats,
with high energy density. The products will meet customer needs in e-mobility, stationary energy
storage, including grid-scale markets, and lead acid battery replacement. Lucas TVS will also be
offering complete battery solutions to those customers who need them.

Toyota Motor Corp said on Tuesday it expects to spend more than $13.5 billion by 2030 to
develop batteries and its battery supply system - a bid to lead in the key automotive technology
over the next decade.

The world's largest automaker by volume, which pioneered hybrid gasoline-electric vehicles with
the popular Prius, is now moving rapidly to deliver its first all-electric line-up next year.
Considered a leader in developing batteries for electric vehicles, Toyota said it aims to slash the
cost of its batteries by 30% or more by working on the materials used and the way the cells are
structured.

"Then, for the vehicle, we aim to improve power consumption, which is an indicator of the
amount of electricity used per kilometer, by 30%, starting with the Toyota bZ4X," Chief
Technology Officer Masahiko Maeda told a briefing, referring to an upcoming compact SUV
model.

The company is also the front runner to mass produce solid-state batteries - a potential game
changer for automakers because they are more energy dense, charge faster and are less prone
to catching fire. If developed successfully, they could replace liquid lithium-ion batteries.

While it was still struggling with the short service life of these cells, Maeda said there was no
change in Toyota's target to begin manufacturing solid-state batteries by the mid 2020s.

"We are still searching for the best materials to use," he said.

Efforts to mass produce solid-state batteries have stumbled as they are expensive to fabricate
and are prone to crack when they expand and contract during use. Toyota also plans to use
solid-state batteries in hybrid electric vehicles such as the Prius, it said.

Hyundai's luxury brand Genesis could likely be preparing to enter the Indian roadways
and put their products in the market including electric offerings. This entry could
compete head on with the German trio of Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi alongside
Jaguar-Land Rover and Lexus.

The debut may happen via a fully built import route although the company might
consider assembling the cars to evade huge import duty.

Apart from the native market South-Korea, luxury brand Genesis which was launched in
2015, is also available in the US.

Recently, Genesis entered the high volume market of China and now is pioneering in the
European market. India could very possibly be on their radar as their next stop.

Feasibility studies have already begun, Hyundai India MD and CEO S S Kim told TOI. He
added that it's still too early to talk about definitive plans and launch dates.

He stated that luxury car market in India is dominated by German makers and Hyundai
is understanding the reasons for their strong holding and how new brands can make
their debut.

Despite coming from a mainstream car brand Hyundai, Kim added, Genesis has been
able to create strong holding niche in luxury cars markets such as US and South Korea.

Philosophy and core values are different for both Hyundai and Genesis, he said. Hyundai
is not the first carmaker with a separate luxury extension. Toyota manufactures luxury
cars under its Lexus leg and similarly Nissan sells Infiniti.

The Kanban methodology establishes a protocol for the stock replenishment. It's a system for
communicating both production and materials replenishment orders, used in production models that
respond directly to demand. Kanban is one way to schedule lean manufacturing processes. Right from
when an order is placed to the time when delivery is complete. Kanban takes over the entire system.
At any point in time, there is as much stock as sold, the suppliers are notified about the same so that
they can stock up the inventory once again. The sole purpose of having such a system is to prevent
wastage.

Resources like Man, Material, Machine, Money, Space, Time are not unlimited and overall, they are costly
in most organizations. Hence getting maximum from the limited or minimum resources is the priority of
all organizations irrespective of type or products or service, size, location. Productivity is the indicator to
know how well you are becoming more and more efficient by getting more output from the limited
resources or the inputs at our disposal. That is the key to both survival and growth.

Productivity impacts almost all operational performance requirements like Capacity utilization, Cost of
Goods sold, Lead Time, on time, Inventory Turns etc. Business benefits like Increased profitability, ROCA,
Market share and Cash flow will be the outcome of higher productivity.

Productivity indicates how good your processes are in terms of effectiveness and efficiency. Hence, it is
the responsibility of ‘certified Productivity Improvement specialists’ in every organization to identify
opportunities of Productivity improvement in the entire Supply chain and apply right tools and best
practices to achieve the same. It is also a timely decision by visionary leaders of organizations to develop
as many ‘Certified Productivity Improvement specialists’’ as possible who are equipped with necessary
knowledge and skill sets to contribute to getting maximum from minimum and significantly improves
productivity.

A Case study using Spark

Big Data is the term that describes the large volume of data – both structured and unstructured, that inundates
a business on a day-to-day basis. But it is not the amount of data that is important. It is what organizations do
with the data that matters. Big data can be analyzed for insights that lead to better decisions and strategic
business moves.

The spread of the COVID-19 global pandemic has generated an exponentially mounting and extraordinary
volume of data that can be harnessed to improve our understanding of big data management to better
anticipate and respond to such unforeseen ‘black swan’ events and risks. For instance, firms are using big data
analytics to manage and mitigate uncertainties and bottlenecks in supply chains.

This certificate course outlines on how big data can be harnessed by businesses to study emerging challenges
and engage them for better decision making. It is designed based on the job requirements of a Big Data Analyst
and will have an equal balance of theory and practical knowledge. It aims to get delegates started on using Big
Data Platforms, Program Elementary Applications on Apache Spark and usage of Big Data Frameworks.
