II. Assessment
Answer the questions below very briefly.

1. Based on the Curriculum Guide for Grade I in the first quarter of the Art
education class, what is the performance standard that guides the art
teacher?

 Teaching requires competencies within a range of studio materials

and methods, operational understanding of creative traditions and
contemporary visual culture, fluency in developmental psychologies
and social theories, and the practical preparation to teach diverse
student populations in a variety of educational environments. Per
these philosophical considerations, I propose that education in the
arts and through the arts is better equipped to create meaningful
connections between what the learner knows and what is to be
learned than any other subject approached independently or in
absentia of the visual element.

2. Give the content standards in the 3rd quarter of the art education class for
Grade I in the delivery of the lesson “Printmaking.”
 CONTENT Standard #1: Understanding and applying media,
techniques and processes
 CONTENT Standard #2: Using knowledge of structures and
functions.
 CONTENT Standard #3: Choosing and evaluating a range of
subject matter, symbols and ideas.

3. Write a short synthesis of the Multiple Intelligence Theory by Gardner in

relation to teaching art.
• Gardner (2013) asserts that regardless of which subject you teach
—“the arts, the sciences, history, or math”—you should present learning
materials in multiple ways. Gardner goes on to point out that anything you
are deeply familiar with “you can describe and convey … in several ways.
We teachers discover that sometimes our own mastery of a topic is
tenuous, when a student asks us to convey the knowledge in another way
and we are stumped.” Thus, conveying information in multiple ways not
only helps students learn the material, it also helps educators increase
and reinforce our mastery of the content. Regardless of which subject you
teach—“the arts, the sciences, history, or math”—you should present
learning materials in multiple ways. Gardner’s multiple intelligences theory
can be used for curriculum development, planning instruction, selection of
course activities, and related assessment strategies. Gardner points out
that everyone has strengths and weaknesses in various intelligences,
which is why educators should decide how best to present course material
given the subject-matter and individual class of students. Indeed,
instruction designed to help students learn material in multiple ways can
trigger their confidence to develop areas in which they are not as strong.
In the end, students’ learning is enhanced when instruction includes a
range of meaningful and appropriate methods, activities, and
assessments.

4. Give at least one (1) example of each of the following learning strategies
in teaching art.
a. Direct Instruction - Demonstration Lessons
b. Guided Practice - Collaborative Activity
c. Interactive Strategy - Group Work
d. Thematic Instruction - Role Playing
e. Technology Strategy- Research
5. How do the following assessment techniques help to determine learner’s
knowledge, understanding and skills and to monitor their progress on a
given task?

6. What are considered as the “core competencies” of the art teachers,

artists, and designers? Elaborate your answer.
 Teachers believe that the most important competency is
“knowledge and skills to work in a team, to be involved in the entire
life and work of the school”, while the least important competency is
“knowledge and skills to engage in disseminating ideas about the
importance of art education among other teachers and artists.
Interacting Well with Students Educators must be able to positively
interact with all students. This includes difficult students, students
who work below grade-level and students whose personalities just
grate on a teacher. Teachers must put aside their prejudices and
feelings in order to treat all students with respect, provide them with
equal opportunities for learning and make them feel confident.
Creating a Learning Environment, creating a safe learning
environment that is conducive to learning is essential. Educators
must set high expectations for student performance and behaviour.
All rules must be enforced consistently and fairly. Students should
not have to worry about being bullied in the classroom and should
feel comfortable when speaking up. Good at Lesson Plan Design,
all educators must be capable of designing lesson plans to meet
student needs and cover the standards. This requires knowing how
to choose and create instructional materials to accommodate
students at different levels. It also requires creating a scope and
sequence that provides students with enough time to master the
standards. Able to Use Varied Teaching Strategies, best practices
and other appropriate teaching strategies allow competent
educators to effectively teach the curriculum. Competent educators
may lecture, but they also incorporate a variety of strategies,
including non-traditional teaching strategies, to help students with
multiple learning styles learn and stay engaged. Educators also
attend regular professional development sessions to learn new
strategies and the latest best practices. Able to Assess, educators
must design or select and administer effective assessments. An
assessment must accurately measure what has been taught and
what students have learned. Competent educators combine
informal and formal assessment techniques to monitor student
performance. They also incorporate technology, portfolios and
other creative methods to assess students.

7. How does (ICT) Information and Communication Technology change the

atmosphere in the classroom?
 ICTs can enhance the quality of education in several ways: by
increasing learner motivation and engagement, by facilitating the
acquisition of basic skills, and by enhancing teacher training. ICTs
are also transformational tools which, when used appropriately, can
promote the shift to a learner-centered environment.

8. Describe the selected instructional materials used in teaching art

education.
 The following sections describe the four primary categories of
criteria that teachers said they use when selecting instructional
materials: accuracy and visual appeal, alignment to standards and
depth of knowledge, ease of use and support, and engagement
and ability to meet student needs.
