RUNNING HEAD: Nursing Leadership Theories in Practice 1

Responding to Jessica Russell

Hello Jessica,

Hi! I appreciate that you began the discussion by describing leadership and what it

incorporates. As you note according to Marshall (2010) leadership is the ability to guide,

direct, motivate, and inspire a group or organization toward the achievement of a common

goal. Furthermore, you proceed to discuss transformational leadership and its importance in a

healthcare setting. I concur with your argument that during this traumatizing period of Covid-

19 leaders should take initiative and identify ways of plugging problems. I relate with the

example of your manager who converted the pediatric unit to accommodate the increasing

number of Covid-19 patients. Moreover, you assert that leaders should be motivational and

inspire colleagues, one whom others view as the best example of excellent performance and

that motivates others to grow and succeed (Stanley, 2016). The discussion is well organized

all I can comment on is encouraging groupwork and commitment.

Thank you.

Nursing Leadership Theories in Practice 2

Responding to Gifty Manu

Hello Gifty,

Hi! I concur with the definition of leadership you have provided which states that the power

of a leader is shown by an effective team and the leader who motivates, encourages,

empowers team members to expand the capacity of the whole organization at all levels

(Broome & Marshall, 2021). Additionally, I admire the persistence you have had within the

nursing profession serving for over 12 years at different hospitals and departments. Indeed,

you have learnt from the best through your description of an astute director who exercises

servant leadership while approaching leadership situations. Indeed, embracing

transformational leadership requires devout servant principles. As you affirm the director has

the entire hospital to follow his lead due to the transformational leadership type (Specchia et

al., 2021). Therefore, his open-door policy has facilitated the smooth running of the

institution through the hands-on approach he has adopted at the hospital.

Thank you.
