Research Title: The Impact of COVID 19 on the Well-being of Public High School Teachers in

Candelaria, Zambales

Rationale
Long before the coronavirus disease (COVID 19) became a pandemic and disrupted schools,
teachers were already at risk of burnout arising from different predisposing factors.
Transitioning from face-to-face classes to distance learning delivery modalities brings about new
challenges and surprises. The changes brought about by the “new normal” in education has
further exacerbated the stresses facing teachers.

As the Department of Education continues to fulfill its constitutional mandate navigating periods
of remote teaching and learning, promoting the well-being of teachers should be a key priority.
Since last year, the mental health of teachers has been a rising concern with a significant number
of teachers experiencing psychological distress. In cognizance of the invaluable contributions
and the influence the teachers yield over student learning, there is an apparent need to create
conditions for supporting teacher well-being before, during, and after the current pandemic.

Therefore, this research seeks to study the impact of COVID-19 on the well-being of public high
school teachers in Candelaria, Zambales. It aims to identify self-reported causes of stressful
working conditions of public high school teachers, biopsychosocial consequences of those
working conditions and then identify working conditions that promote the well-being of teachers
in the workplace. The results of this study may contribute to the development of a holistic
approach in improving working conditions that will promote the well-being of teachers.
