2. (a) With a neat sketch erplain formation of steam at constant pressure. 5
(b) Steam enters a engine at a pressure of 12 bar with 67 "C of super heat and is
exhausted at 0.15 bar and 0.94 dry, calculate the drop in enthalpy from
admission to exhaust and volume of I kg of steam at admission and exhaust
conditions. Take Ko of super heated steam as 2.L kJ/kg 'k. 10
4. (a) Explain with P-V and T-S diagram of the modified Rankine cycle.

PART - I)
8. (a) What are the applications of nozzle ? 5
(b) A convergent-divergent nozzle is required to discharge 2 kg of steam per sec.
The nozzle is supplied with steam ati bar and 180 oC and discharge takes place
against a back of pressure at I bar. The expansion upto throat is isentropic and
the frictional resistance between the throat and exit is equivalent 63 kJ per kg of
steam. Taking approach velocity of 75 m/s and thrcat pressure of 4 bar,
estimate :
(i) suitable area for the throat and exit.
(ii) overall efficiency of the nozzle based on the enthalpv drop between the
actual inlet preszure and temperatllre and the exit pressute. 10
