Welcome to Edgecumbe College

I am delighted to welcome you to our College! We are proud to be centered in the community and working to meet the challenges of an
ever-changing world, helping to build wonderful young people that Edgecumbe can be proud of.
These are exciting times for the College with a devoted and involved Board and a dedicated professional staff who go the extra mile to
build strong, positive relationships with their students, working in partnership with them to aim high and reach their potential.
An extensive building project has started and we will see major reconstruction of the whole school in 2022.

21st Century Learning Environment
An extensive refurbishment began in 2020 and will continue through 2022, including:
*demolition of flood-damaged buildings
*creation of a specialised learning support space
*wellbeing hub (nurse, counsellor, careers, teacher aides)
*frontage improvements including fencing, signage, tree removals
*swimming pool complex rebuild
*replacement of coal heating with unique pellet burner system
*hall refurbishment

Classroom renovations are currently in the design stage. The Ministry of Education has committed to a multi-million dollar project to bring
Edgecumbe College facilities into a modern and dynamic learning centre.

Our workshops for wood, metal and food are well resourced and our facilities, including full sized pool, gymnasium, courts, horticulture
gardens, sports fields and hall are generously sized education spaces.

Our Pastoral Care
Student pastoral care is an essential and integral part of the daily life of our school. It is a partnership between parents/caregivers, families,
community agencies and the school to foster personal growth amongst the students.

Uniform
Edgecumbe College believes that wearing school uniform correctly encourages a sense of pride in oneself and the school, as well as
creating a sense of unity for our school whanau. Our students represent our school in our community, and we expect students to
portray a positive image at all times.
Our Board has accessed quality uniform items at the lowest price possible. We run a second-hand sale group on Facebook for
whanau, and we assist students who require support with items to access these.
All students are required to wear regulation school uniform and be well-groomed at all times, including to and from school.
Students not in correct school uniform will be processed through our school procedure on non-compliance. Regulation means
school-embroidered items as sold from our chosen outlets. You'll find more information on our uniform code on our website.
Student-led Service & Culture Activities

Year 13 students who elect to become Peer Support leaders are assigned to a group of
Year 9 students for Term One of the school year. These students have attended a
Leadership camp at the end of the school holidays in preparation for the arrival of our
new Year 9 students. The Peer Support programme is designed to provide our new
students with confidence and support as they start their college years.

The Breakfast Club is run by a group of students who organise the menus and the day to
day operations of providing breakfast for our students. The Breakfast Club provide a
variety of foods and snacks at morning tea and is available to any student. This service
provided by students for students is very important in our day to day life at Edgecumbe
College.

Our Environmental Group drive sustainable change in our College and the wider
community. Their current project is replacing all bins in the school with recycling stations,
and creating native planted areas on school site.

The Rainbow Group, supported by our Principal, embraces diversity and celebrates our
students.

Our interhouse competitions are led by student house leaders who drive participation
and friendly house rivalry. Interhouse cup awards are given out at our annual prizegiving.

Exclusive MOU with BlueLight which gives our students open access to their full range of
activities and support for young people' including opportunities for leadership, survival
camps and Spirit of Adventure, driver licensing for all 16 year olds.
