ACTIVITY 2

In what circumstances can self-defense be justified? Discuss your answer using the
modifiers of human act as your bases. What are the excusing conditions?

ANSWER:

The person is justified to use deadly or threatening force when he is in the state of nearly

death to save his life. He is have a grave fear or fear of death, the circumstances that can be seen

here is circumstance of the agent and place. Example; the lady walk through her house but there

was a robbery and attempt to harm her, she used her sandals or her force as self-defense to save

her own life from danger. Life is very important and God is the only one who takes it so that the

lady didn’t commit sin by using her stuffs and force to avoid her life from death. The other

example is when the man instructed by unknown person to kill someone if he refused it would be

in exchange for his wife’s life, so that the man needs to follow the request of the unknown

person to save his wife’s life. The present modifier of human act is concupiscence and fear. The

man is excuse in any sin or violation because he only wants to save his wife and he was forced

only. The other excusing conditions; when it comes in defense of Chastity, there must be

immediate danger of rape to justify killing. If it were only acts of lasciviousness, killing is an

unreasonable means. Intent to rape must be present. Defense of person or rights does not

necessarily the killing of the unlawful aggressor. But the person defending himself cannot be

expected to think clearly so as to control his blow. The killing of the unlawful aggressor may still

be justified as long as the mortal wounds are inflicted at the time when the elements of complete

self are still present.
