Thanks for your letter and it was great to hear plans for the post-graduation which you have
prepared by heart. However, I am deeply sorry to tell you that I can’t join our gap-year plan.

As you may know, it is a national journalist that I have always aspired to become since I was
a little kid. With lifelong yearnings for a job in journalism, last month I participated in a journal
competition about the environment, which is operated by the national broadcast station.
Fortunately, I won second place and got a once-in-a-lifetime chance of working as an intern
for the national broadcast station in the next six months. Since such a great opportunity
arises out of the blue, I can’t help but cancel the gap-year plans that we have agreed on in
the firsthand.

I profusely apologize for my cancellation of our plan. I hope you can forgive my mistakes.
