In a world of grim politics and seemingly native cynicism,
the very hope of universal peace may appear naïve. But the most important hopes are often the naïve ones
What is world peace ?
To define this I would like to use the concept of Jody williams a nobel prize winner on world peace
According to her unfortunately world peace was not
holding hands and singing kumbaya together . She said that the main aim of world peace was to attain sustainable peace in which majority of the people in this planet have the access to basic neccessities and important resources like education, healthcare etc. So that people can live in freedom from want and freedom from fear .
So let us take a dig on the ground reality of what people
think about world peace ?
In 2016 there was a survey done by the National
Geographic Society where they asked people from all corners of the world about world peace. 50 percent of the people were optimistic about it and the other half were just the contrary .
One of the really fascinating answers in that survey was
given by an american actor ‘Morgan Freeman’ where he said that War and peace are just two binaries in which you cant just contemplate one without the other .
The best part of the answer was when he said “ If there
is peace you are preparimg for war and if there is war you are fighting for peace .”
So clearly from that we only get a vague answer to our
question
Coming up to how much progress we have already made
?
The straight answer to this will be yes considering the
following cases :
Hans rosling , a Swedish physicist in one of his
books stated that the amount of people who live in poverty has become half in the past 20 yeaars , which is a really good sign .
Talking about the medical facilities we really have
improved alot
Back in the 19 th CE the amount of children dying
below the age of five was 44% And now it has come upto 4% which is also a really good sign
My point of view in this case is that I do believe in
world peace as world peace is not a myth .
Thereby I would like to conclude myself with a Dalai
Lama quote “We can never make peace in the outer world until we make peace in ourselves”
