1. Who are those persons involve to make table tennis game possible? Explain each contribution to the
game.

David Foster

*The earliest surviving action game of Tennis on a table is a set made by him which is patented in
England(1890). He called it Parlour Table Games, which included table versions of Lawn Tennis, Cricket,
and Football. His rules are found at Cambridge University and it is mentioned in Rule 3, "Table Tennis".

2. What is ITTF and its contribution to the game table tennis?

ITTF is an acronym for International Table Tennis Federation. The International Table Tennis Federation
(ITTF) is the governing body for all national table tennis associations. The role of the ITTF includes
overseeing rules and regulations and seeking technological improvement for the sport of table tennis.
The ITTF is responsible for the organisation of numerous international competitions, including the World
Table Tennis Championships that has continued since 1926. With the ITTF being responsible for the
governance and development of the sport for the benefit of over 30 million competitive players, as well
as representing the 226 Member Associations. And with the ITTF Foundation aiming to promote and use
table tennis for purposes of development and peace, where competition and excellence as well as social
responsibility and recreation are linked by the passion for table tennis.

3. Where was the game table tennis founded and year it was stablished?

The game was invented in England in the early days of the 20th century and was originally called Ping-
Pong, a trade name. The name table tennis was adopted in 1921–22 when the old Ping-Pong Association
formed in 1902 was revived. The original association had broken up about 1905, though apparently the
game continued to be played in parts of England outside London and by the 1920s was being played in
many countries. Led by representatives of Germany, Hungary, and England, the Fédération
Internationale de Tennis de Table (International Table Tennis Federation) was founded in 1926, the
founding members being England, Sweden, Hungary, India, Denmark, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Austria,
and Wales. By the mid-1990s more than 165 national associations were members.

Name of player: Zhuang Zedong

Skills contributed to the game: Zhuang Zedong is one of China best table
tennis player in the history of table tennis. He won three world
championships in his career. He was the major player in the ping pong
diplomacy that led to the United States table tennis team’s invitation to China in 1971.His skills are
shortening the strokes of backhand drives – sometimes even by simply using wrist or finger actions to
flick the racket (referred to by himself in his book as to "knock" or "snap" the ball and standing closer to
the table than Wang – but still two to three feet away from the table, which is farther away than most
push-blocking penholders who are normally within two feet. He also had to streamline his strokes and
instead attempted to generate a sudden burst of explosive power via a smaller motion, similar to the
"one-inch punch" in the Wing Chun Kung Fu style.
