FOOD AND ITS IMPORTANCE


Any substance that has nutrients in it, that people or animals can eat or drink and plants can absorb is called
food and what we eat in a day is called diet.
Food is important as it:

•GIVES ENERGY to do various activities.

•REPAIRS old and worn out tissues.

•CONTROLS all the functions of the body of an organism as

In the below given picture, check out the six food items that Mrs. Iyer and Mrs. Kapoor have prepared? Have
they prepared the same kind of food?

Mrs Kapoor has prepared: 1. chapatti 2. chicken curry 3. fish curry 4. Rice
REASONS FOR THE VARIATION IN FOOD EATEN ARE LISTED HERE:

CLIMATIC CONDITIONS
Every crop grows in different climatic conditions. Rice needs more water and moderate temperature whereas wheat
needs less water and high temperature for its growth.

CULTURE AND TRADITION


People in southern areas prefer coconut, while in eastern area people prefers chilies and spices and in northern area
people prefers fried items.

LIKES AND DISLIKES


Young generation prefers fast food while older generation generally prefers wheat, rice, pulses, vegetables etc

What things did Mrs. Kapoor used to prepare rice?


• Just two things, water and rice.
• The things used to prepare any dish or food item are called ingredients.
• Some food items might require only two ingredients whereas some might be made up of more
ingredients.

Food without fire:
Learners need to cook food without fire for their mothers and click a picture of prepared food with their
mother and add a caption to it. These pictures will be shared with the respective subject teachers by
individual learner.
