Location: Room 1
the music is "Deer Room" (Victor
Butzelaar)

Mr Deer is sitting on a red velvet,

Cabriole leged[1] couch.

Mr Deer: “bring me a Bloody Mary!”

There is laboratory glassware and a

beam scale on a table. Above it is
a framed picture, it is a study of
6 moths.
Two moth specimens are pined in a
frame. There is another pin with no
specimen. Below there is a bucket
on a table
A coffee/burr grinder is mounted
above a chest of draws. A box of
matches is taken from a drawer.

On a table a plant pot is covered

by a glass cloche. There is no
plant inside. Next to it is a
paraffin lamp.

-vodka
-tobasco
-special ingredient?

On the wall is a mounted deer skull

There is also a paper pinned to the
wall. It is titled “Mr Deer’s
research plan”. It shows a diagram
(front Projection?) of the hotel.
Lables next to the diagram read
“hotel hight?” and “walls”. Labels
under the diagram read “what is in
the lake” “xxxx water samples” and
next to a double dashed line going
straight down from the center of
the hotel “is there a way down?”.
The paper has been stamped with red
ink in the same design as the
postmark on the postcard sent to
Dale Vandermere from Mr Owl in 1939
on Dale’s 9th birthday.
The deer skull grows a full set of
antlers. Touching them causes what
looks like blood to run from its
nasal cavity.
Sprigs of Rosemary are colected.

There are two windows on one side

of the room.

When the left side window is

opened, a rope pulley can be seen
suspended out side of it. The
bucket is tied to the end of the
rope in the pully. Water is drawn
from the lake using the bucket.

When the right side window is

opened, an orange and black
moth/buterfly can be seen outside.
It appears to be a death's-head
hawkmoth. It is caught and pined
into the frame with the other two
specimens. They twitch as though
they are still alive. The new
specimens abdomen splits open. A
seed is taken from it.

The seed is put in the pot with

some of the water, the cloche is
then replaced over it. Then the
paraffin lamp is lit.
A plant grows. White floweres
bloom. The floweres die and
poisonous seeds are produced. The
seeds are collected.
The poisonous seeds are put in the
hoper of the burr grinder and
ground.
A poison is extracted from the
ground seeds using the laboritory
equipment on the table.

A hip flask of vodka is found

behind the couch.

There is a safe on a table between

the windows. A hunting knife is
found inside.

The knife is use to cut Mr Deers

antler. Blood is collected
A bloody mary is mixed and the
poison is added.

It is served to mr deer. He starts

foaming at the mouth and twitching.

The Ingreadients for the deer steak

with mushrooms and rosemary recipe
are complete.

parrot squawks. The corrupted souls
of the hotel guests are seen in
glass tanks. The glass cracks. The
tanks are seen empty with broken
glass panes. The corrupted souls
advance on Harvey, who falls. A
beam of light hits the entrance of
the rusty lake hotel. A green
parrot (Harvey) is seen flying into
the night sky.

The cable, the gas tube, the rusty

bolt, the batterys, the silver
coin, the pice of glass and the
watch are fitted into the macheine
until it is complete. A dial on the
front reaches maximum and a round
window on the top starts to glow
with white light. It makes a shrill

There is a plant pot on the flour.

A young shoot is growing inside.
The plant is watered and the soil
fertilised with bird dropings found
on the windowsill. A long grass
grows in the pot.

There is a deary cow in one corner.

The grass from the pot is fed to
the cow. The gow now gives milk.

Out of the window the lake can be

seen. It is twielight and mist is
floating over the water. The
chappel can be seen across the
lake. Using binoculars “1384” can
be seen writen above the door.

The milk is wormed on the stove.

The old womans hair is cut.
In the top room there is a Treadle
wheel. The hair is spun into wool.
The old woman nits the wool into an
oven glove in return for some warm
milk.

There is a heavy door leading to

the pumphouse. It is locked with a
combination lock. Above the lock is
a simple drawing of a chaple.
The door is opened with the
combination 1384.

In the pumphouse there is a Scoop

wheel pump connected to a water
outlet by a water race. Above the
outlet is scratched a picture of a
clock and the time 6:10. Between
the scoop wheel and the outlet the
race routed through a strange
machine.
The water level in the pump house
does not reach the scoop wheel.
There is a sluice gate in the wall
when it is opened the water level
rises and a fish gets in.
There is a duck floating on the
water.

The duck is grilled and given to

the old woman, in return she knits
a net.

The fish is caught with the net and

griled. In return for the grilled
fish the old woman knits a rope.

The rope is used to link one of the

mills gear wheels to another
strange machine.

In the top room the longcase clock

is set to 6:10.
The door is unlocked. The body of
the woman is in the case, black
butterflies fly out. The body of
the woman is moved to the lower
room.

The TV set now shows Dale

Vandermeer (clean shaven). The
outline of two squares flash red
and yellow on the screen infront of
him.
The dial is turned, Dale Vandermeer
is now holding a black cube. The
dial is turned again. One of the
square outlines is now filed black.
The dial is turned again, Dale
Vandermeer is holding a white cube.
The dial is turned once more. The
other square outline is filed
white. The dial is turned for the
last time. A high pitched trill is
heard.
Out of the window a ray of light
can be seen between the sky and the
ground. With the binoculars Dale
vandermeer can be seen lying
unconcious on the ground outside
the chapel. The ray of light is
striking or eminating from his
heart. A jaring noise is heard. Mr
Owl appears beside Dale vandermeer,
he rases his arms and a thunder
clap is heard. It starts to rain
and Dale Vandermeer rises slowly up
over the ground.
The windmills sails have started to
turn.

In the lower room the womans body

is now suspended upside down by a
chain hoist. It is operated with
controles on the strange machine.
The womans body is lowered into the
machine until her face can be seen
through its window. A light on the
machine comes on.
The machine is activated, the high
pitch trill is heard again. The
machine apears to be scanning the
womans brain. In the window of the
machine 12 black squares apear,
they change to show:
the picture of the woman standing
in front of pink blossom in the
room,
the green gem from the cabin,
the cactus from the room,
the green phone from the room,
the candle from the room,
the long case clock from the room,
the shrimp from the room,
the casset tape from the room.
They come toghether to form a white
square. The machine produces a
white cube.

Water can now be seen through the

window in the strange machine in
the pump house as water is being
pumped into Rusty Lake. The white
cube is placed into the machine, it
mixes with the water. The high
pitch trill is heard. The water in
the machine pulses with white
light. Through the grate over the
water outlet the numbers 257 can be
seen in the sky above the lake.

The numbers 257 are put into the

machine in the lower room. 12 black
squares apear in the window in the
machine. They change to show:
a green and white pill/capsule
(Prozak) from the room,
an eyeball (in front of the

square.
Wiled animal sounds are heard. The
machine shakes. The womans body
start to turn black. The machine
produces a black cube.

The black cube is placed in the

strange machine in the pump house
it mixes with the water.

The music is "Right Behind You”

Outside everything turns pitch

black. The scoop wheel has stopped
turning.

In the main room the sails have

stopped turning and can no longer
be seen. The old woman is not
moving, there is blood on her
blanket.
The body of the woman has gone.

In the top room the deiry cow has

been decapitated. Its head is
leying under the window.
A dark figure of a woman is holding
Harvey, its hands are around
Harveys neck. It has white holes
for eyes. There are blood stains on
the wall.
A pattern starts to apear on the
wall behind the dark figure. It is
abstract but sugests sinister bat-
