GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
Read the following instructions very carefully and strictly follow them :
(i) Question paper comprises four sections – A, B, C and D.
(ii) There are 37 questions in the questions paper. All questions are compulsory.
(iii) Section – A : Q. No. 1 to 20 are very short answer type questions carrying one mark each. Answer
these questions in one word or one sentence.
(iv) Section – B : Q. No. 21 to 27 are short answer type questions carrying two marks each.
(v) Section – C : Q. No. 28 to 34 are long answer type-I questions carrying three marks each.
(vi) Section – D : Q. No. 35 to 37 are long answer type-II questions carrying five marks each.
(vii) There is NO overall choice in the question paper. However, an internal choice has been provided in 2
questions of two marks, 2 questions of three marks and all the 3 questions of five marks. You have to
attempt only one of the choices in such questions.
(viii) However, separate instructions are given with each section and question, wherever necessary.
(ix) Use of calculators and log tables is NOT permitted.

Explain the non-linear shape of H2S and non-planar shape of PCl3 using valence shell
electron pair repulsion theory.

28.If 4 g of NaOH dissolves in 36 g of H2O, calculate the mole fraction of each


component in the solution. Also, determine the molarity of solution (specific
Gravity of solution is 1g mL–1).

29.(a) State Heisenberg Uncertainity Principle.


(b) The effect of the uncertainty principle is significant only for the motion of microscopic particles and is
negligible for the macroscopic particles. Justify the statement with the help of a suitable example.

(a) Two particles A and B have wavelength λA = 5 × 10–10 m and λB =10 × 1010 m. Find their frequency,
wave number and energies. Which has more penetrating power and why ?
30.(a)Nitrogen has positive electron gain enthalpy whereas oxygen has negative. However, oxygen has
lower ionisation enthalpy than nitrogen. Explain.

36.(a) The variation of pressure with the volume of the gas at different temperatures can be graphically
represented as shown in Fig. Based on this graph answer the following questions.
(i) How will the volume of a gas change if its pressure is increased at constant temperature?
(ii) At constant pressure, how will the volume of a gas change if the temperature is increased from 200K to
400K?

Use the information and data given below to answer the questions (a) to (c):
