When we discuss the environmental performance of aircraft and engines, we

often tend to think it terms of its operational fuel efficiency. While in-service
performance is certainly important (and modern aircraft have come a long way in
terms of fuel efficiency over course of the last few decades), what is often not
considered is the environmental impact of the product itself: how it was
manufactured, the supply chain and how it is decommissioned at its end-of-life.
These aspects, however, can be just as important.
When Bombardier began working on developing the new C Series aircraft,
the company wanted to not only make sure that the finished product was as fuel
efficient as possible, but also that its lifecycle environmental impact was as clean as
possible too. To prove that the C Series was as environmentally friendly from the
beginning to the end of its lifecycle, Bombardier put forward the C Series project to
the Swedish environmental declaration programme, International EPD. In September
2016, Bombardier published the Environmental Product Declaration, which was
audited by an independent third party. The EPD bases its conclusions on the CS100
aircraft around verified lifecycle analysis data and discloses information on its
environmental performance, allowing both airlines and the public to get a clear view
on the real impact of the CS100 and how Bombardier is committed to ‘eco-design’.

Case Study Analysis

1. Abstract/Executive Summary: Single Paragraph Summary including

Recommendations

Fuel efficiency tend to put a greater increase in a country’s economy. But as the
years go by, it became dangerous to the environment as well. It’s like, if one branch
of the economy may have been on the peak of it’s success, one branch must
sacrifice. And it’s a major problem if the nature itself will be the one who needs to
sacrifice.
The main problem is to determine and beware of the environmental impacts
of aircraft and engines. Bombardier developed the new C Series aircraft that’s lead to
the making of the aircraft and engines that are “eco-design(ed)”. To prove that the C
Series was as environmentally friendly from the beginning to the end of its lifecycle,
Bombardier put forward the C Series project to the Swedish environmental
declaration programme, International EPD.

2. Problem Statement: Overview of Key Issues Arising from the Case Study

The key issues arose from the case study is that the company wanted to not
only make sure that the finished product was as fuel efficient as possible, but also
that its life cycle environmental impact was as clean as possible too. And how could
it be very helpful and effective to the environment. To minimize air pollution, and
release of carbon emissions.

3. Case Analysis: Theory-driven analysis of case(s) identifying factors underlying

key issues

When we discuss the environmental performance of aircraft and engines, we

often tend to think it terms of its operational fuel efficiency. What is often not
considered is the environmental impact of the product itself. The main issue of the
case was to tell why there’s a pros and cons of having a fuel efficient engines in our
current generation. What probable steps to having an eco-friendly machines, and
taking steps to achieve it.

4. Alternative Solutions: Pros and cons of possible solutions to problems

Probable solutions is to continue to progress upon the works to informing the public
to to get a clear view on the real impact of the CS100.

Also, to keep working to be committed to ‘eco-design’ engines and aircraft.

It can really help us globally and making and doing things so efficiently, but we
cannot still ignore the fact that even the slightest impact it gives can still destroy
something great.
5. Recommendations: Detailed description of optimal solution with rationale.

Optimal solution might be the proper and legal way of conducting researches and
examinations to the creation of these machines, engines and aircraft. Continues
evaluation of the pros and cons it can have and provide plans to proper execute
things and solutions to probable dangers.
