1. In what way does devolution of powers to local government units helps to accelerate
social and economic development among its constituents?

The devolution of powers to local government units helps accelerate social and
economic development among their constituents. Local government units have the
responsibility to provide services that meet the basic needs of the poor in their
communities in a cost-effective and affordable manner. They can also promote social
development through arts and culture, the provision of recreational and community
facilities, and the delivery of social welfare services.

2. How can LGU provide more responsive and accountable program through
decentralization? Give concrete examples.
Local government units support and nurture self-reliance through
decentralization, which encourages individuals to channel their efforts into activities
that benefit them all. Decentralization also breaks the capital city syndrome and frees
local governments from reliance on the central government. As a result, local
communities take the initiative to be inventive and enterprising.
