Direction: Answer the given question as instructed.

Do social services rendered by local authorities enhance social equity? Give at least 2
examples to strengthen your answer. (20 pts.)

The social services rendered by local authorities promote social equity, but the
term "social equity" here in the Philippines is still elusive. Workers produce the nation's
wealth, but they are impoverished. Food comes from the field of the farmers, but it
does not reach the tables of the farmers, who work on lands that are not their own and,
if they do, are reliant on expensive seeds and technology that conform to traditional
agriculture, which they have little influence over. They rely on "business elites" to sell
their wares that make farming unprofitable. Aside from that, our fishermen are the ones
collecting fish, but their children are hungry since hunger is more prevalent in coastal
areas. This is because the beauty of the Philippine bays is rapidly fading as they suffer
from growing degradation, resulting in the marginalization of the coastal population.
Fish can no longer be easily captured, unlike in the past when they would literally leap
into their boat. After describing the various manifestations of social injustice, the
necessary demand for social reform looms. The institutions and structures that promote
social inequality and inequity are as powerful as they have ever been. But not now,
since societal transformation has been brought about by cooperativism. So, let us vote
wisely on upcoming election if you care about positive social change!
