IDEAL DIODE What is a diode?

Image from https://www.electricalstudynotes.com/2017/04/ideal-diode.html

• First Electronic device.
Diode • The simplest of semiconductor devices.
Resistance at the point or region of operation

• Forward resistance, RF.

• Reverse resistance, RR

theory” book by Robert Boylestad and
Louis Nashelsky, seventh edition.

IDEAL VS COMMERCIAL DIODES
• How close will the forward or “on” resistance of a practical diode
compare with the desired 0- level?

• Is the reverse-bias resistance sufficiently large to permit an open-

circuit approximation?
Activity by team

1) Create a team (3 teams of 3 people and 1 of 4 people).

2) Search for the datasheet of the diode shown in next slide.

3) Create a creative slide that shows the most important information to

know for its use of this diode.

Activity time: 15 minutes.

Extrinsic Materials n- and p-type
• Impurity atoms
According to Boylestad and Nashelsky “A semiconductor material that
has been subjected to the doping process is called an extrinsic
material”
