coastal if it is near the
sea.

Bays & Coves!

 A small gulf is a bay.

 A small bay is a cove.

 Islands!
 A portion of land that has water all around it.

 An archipelalgo is a group of islands near each

other.
Peninsula & Isthmus
 A peninsula is a
piece of land that has
water on all but ONE
side.

 The side that connects

the peninsula with the
land is the isthmus.
 Inland Relief!
 It has plains, plateaus, mountain ranges,
mountains, & valleys.

 A plain is a large piece of land that is

HORIZONTAL and FLAT.

 A plateau is also a plain, but a little ELEVATED.

Mountains!
 A very HIGH area of
land.
 Mountains are formed
by its sides, called
slopes.
 The slopes go to the
TOP of the mountain,
called the summit.
 The LOW part of the
mountain is called the
foot.

 If one group of
mountains is near
another group of
mountains, it makes a
mountain range.
 Mountain System

 When a lot of mountain ranges are near each

other, they form a mountain system.
 Valleys!

 A valley is the low

land BETWEEN
MOUNTAINS.

 You can usually see

rivers in valleys.
 What causes landscapes to
change?

 Nature changes landscapes!

– Ex.) rain, snow, wind, earthquakes, etc.
 Some changes are slow.
– Ex.) Rain, rivers, wind, or sea can make rocks erode or move
objects on the ground from one place to another.
 Some changes are fast.
– Ex.) Earthquakes, floods, volcano eruptions, etc.
