 WHAT IS AN AQUIFER?
 When rain falls on the surface, a small amount of it seeps into the
Earth, this downwards movement continues until the water gets
trapped by layers of clay or non permeable rock, this causes the water
to collect creating underground aquifers.
 TYPES OF AQUIFERS:
 There are 2 basic types of aquifers:
 Unconfined aquifers
 Confined aquifers

 THE WEST REGION AQUIFERS:
 There are 2 main aquifers:
 The unconfined aquifers of the “Campo de Dalias”.
 The confined aquifers of the “Sierra de Gádor”.

 CLIMATE AND WEATHER:
 They are located in one of the most arid areas of Europe and Spain. The
area has a hot desert climate, which generally means hot summers and
warm to cool winters with very little precipitation all year round.

 HUMAN ACTIVITY:
 Because this is one our biggest sources of water, we have built wells to
extract it from the ground; this has caused some problems.
 IMPACT ON THE LANDSCAPE:
 Groundwater interactions with the landscape are important for the
ecosystem , but also causes some problems like:
 Salinisation of soils and water.
 Acidification.
 Subsidence of land surface.
 Development of acid sulphate soils.
 CONCLUSION:
 They are our main source of daily water, so we must try and take care of
them and work on solving and minimizing of all of the problems that
we can, as quickly as possible.
