PEDAGOGY

children to school to learn”
•Focuses on the theory and practice of education
•Concerned with values, principles and known as the
academic discipline
Five approaches of Pedagogy
•Constructivist, Collaborative, Integrative, Reflective
and Inquire based learning
ANDRAGOGY
•Described by Malcolm Shepherd Knowle (1913-1997)
•Focuses on the details of generalized information and
increases the effectives of their understanding, learning
and application
•Adults are intended to be more self-directed
compared to children
KNOWLE’S FIVE ASSUMPTIONS OF ADULT
LEARNERS
 Self-concept
 Past learning experience
 Readiness to learn
 Practical reasons to learn
 Driven by motivation
FOUR PRINCIPLES OF ANDRAGOGY
 Adults are self-directed, they should have a say
in the content and process their learning.
 Adults have experiences to draw from and their
learning should focus on adding to what they
have already learned in the past.
 Adults are looking for practical learning and
content should focus on issues related to their
work or personal life.
 Learning should be centered on solving
problems instead of memorizing content.
