PEDAGOGY •Greek word “Paigagogos” meaning “a slave who takes children to school to learn” •Focuses on the theory and practice of education •Concerned with values, principles and known as the academic discipline Five approaches of Pedagogy •Constructivist, Collaborative, Integrative, Reflective and Inquire based learning ANDRAGOGY •Described by Malcolm Shepherd Knowle (1913-1997) •Focuses on the details of generalized information and increases the effectives of their understanding, learning and application •Adults are intended to be more self-directed compared to children KNOWLE’S FIVE ASSUMPTIONS OF ADULT LEARNERS Self-concept Past learning experience Readiness to learn Practical reasons to learn Driven by motivation FOUR PRINCIPLES OF ANDRAGOGY Adults are self-directed, they should have a say in the content and process their learning. Adults have experiences to draw from and their learning should focus on adding to what they have already learned in the past. Adults are looking for practical learning and content should focus on issues related to their work or personal life. Learning should be centered on solving problems instead of memorizing content.
