Thank you chair for recognizing the delegate of South Korea.

Good morning to all present here. There is no doubt that the

effect of the shutdown will be short-lived. The emissions will
return to normal once people return to their normal lives. As
the crisis resolves, the economic activities will resume, and
the emission levels will rise once again to the average level
or maybe higher. History tells us that the emission reduction
after recession rebounds to wipe out all the gains.

The industries may seek to make up for the lost time with
higher production once the pandemic abates. This is already
happening in China. The pollution levels have returned to the
pre-pandemic stage even though all industries have not
resumed fully yet. During this lockdown, the major
economies all around the world have suffered a loss, and the
losses can continue if they do not stop the lockdown. Many
people have become unemployed, to be specific, the number
of unemployed people has crossed 188 million, people are
suffering from mental health issues all around the world, and
the lockdown initiated by countries around the globe, has
also proved to be having negative effects on the
environment. For ex. There is a lot of plastic waste produced
during the lockdown. Hence, after the outbreak, the
lockdown must be initiated only once a year. With this
statement the delegate of South Korea would like to end his
speech.
