Phonetics is the study of the sounds of all human language (deals with sounds),
while phonology is how sounds design within a given language (deals with
phonemes).
4. Explain the difference between linguistic communication and non-linguistic communication?
Linguistic communication is a means of communicating by the use of sound
language, while non-linguistic communication uses hand gestures, facial
expressions, and body languages to communicate with one another.
5. Write a short article: “Language is an Exclusive Human Property.”
As we all know that language is a form of communication where we can express
what is in our mind, what we feel, what we want to convey, etc. It is the way by
which we, as humans, converse with each other by exchanging knowledge, beliefs,
and other feelings. Animals have their way of communication; we communicate in
linguistic or non-linguistic manner that is why we differ from animals. Hence,
language is an exclusive human property.

6. In contrast to belief in divine creation of language, explain three of the five major theories of the
origin of language.
The La-La Theory suggests that languages may have established in a form of a
song or play; the Pooh-Pooh Theory suggests that language began from emotional
exclamations like surprise, pain, pleasure, etc.; while the Bow-Wow Theory
proposes that languages started when our ancestors imitated the sounds around
them.

7. Explain the difference between phoneme and allophone


A phoneme is the smallest individual unit of sound in a word, while allophone is
the articulation of a phoneme.

8. What is an allomorph?
Allomorph is a different form of a morpheme (when a unit of meaning differs in
sound without altering meaning).
