What is climate change?

NASA’s definition of climate change says it is “a broad range of global

phenomena created predominantly by burning fossil fuels, which add heat-
trapping gases to Earth’s atmosphere.

Climate change has been happening for centuries but we, people started to
worry about it only in the last decades when the changes became really evident
and we started to think about them as a threat.

From the primary school classes, we pupils were taught that our Mother Land is
our home and we should protect it.

I was brought up by my parents and teachers in such a way and I thought that
everyone should do such things without being told. But I was wrong. A lot of
people on this planet still live only for themselves and think only about their
profit. They live as if there is another planet which they can move to when our
planet is exhausted.

We can stop these climatic changes but for that, every one of us has to come
forward and has to adapt ways that can reduce and control our bad habits that
affect the environment. We have to take the initiative and make everyone
aware of the climatic changes. It is not as difficult as it seems from the first
sight. We should start by small steps, by doing things.

-We, teenagers should walk more and use less the cars when going to school
and back. We can use our bikes. This will be healthy for us and less gases into
the atmosphere.

-We can sort the trash and then recycle it. There many collecting centres for
plastic, recycling centres for e-waste and others. For instance, at home I have
several trash bins- for paper, plastic and organic materials.

-Another thing that we can easily do is to eat less meat and more vegetables.
Among the daily actions we do for the environment, the way we eat counts
more than the others. Our diet is one of the domains with the strongest
environmental impacts. In total, it is estimated that the whole food sector might
account for up to a quarter of human greenhouse gas emissions.
-Technologies are a great power nowadays. Everyone has a smart phone, a
tablet or a computer. All of us spend hours watching videos, chatting or
browsing for some information. That is important for us, but it is bad for the
planet. The impact of digital technologies is about 4% of greenhouse gases. So,
by using less our devices we can contribute to the planet survival. I personally
try to control myself and read books or have a walk instead of browsing the
internet.

These are only several actions that each of us can do every day. If each of us
cares about our common home- the Earth then we dare to say that our planet
has a future. Let us think not only about us but about future generations as well.

If you want a change, be the change!
