The story that I’ve choosen is Necklace by Guy De Maupassant.

And I used
feminist criticism, because of matilde’s behavior as a self-image, and world view
woman which completely shaped by the expectations and attitude of the
patriarchal society in which she lives in. Mathilde is a lovely and attractive
woman who has always believed that she was meant for more than what she
have. And the idea that she deserves the luxuries of life but unable to afford those
expensive things drives her to feel insecure to other people. She was described as
unsubstantial, materialistic and desperate for wealth. Mathilde in the story is
under the patriarchal society where woman has lesser rights than men. And she
portrays a life of a woman who has lived a hundred years ago. Living in a
patriarchal society control’s mathildes’ whole life. Mathilde wants to seem good
and thinks she is something that is based on her physical appearance, that’s why
she borrowed the Neclace from madame forestier in order for her to look good
and wealthy. Monsuer, Matilde's husband, is the opposite of her because he is
contented with whatever he has, but he is also the one who controls Matilde's
life. Also, he is the one who has the authority to make decisions in their marriage,
and Matilde's responsibility is to just obey.

Indeed, meeting the criteria of beauty and worth as a woman will put you in a
tough situation. Always keep in mind that physical appearance and economic
class are unimportant in life. Temporary things do not last forever, but being
grateful and a responsible person does. Also, don't let society's standards define
your worth as a woman.
SELF-IMAGE- the idea one has of one's abilities, appearance, and personality.
WORLDVIEW- collection of attitudes, values, stories and expectations about the
world around us
PATRIARCHAL- relating to or characteristic of a system of society or government
controlled by men.

Feminist approach
- Feminist criticism, or gender studies, focuses on the role of women (or
gender) in a literary text.

Indeed, Having truly meet the criteria of beauty and value as a woman will
bring you to a difficult situation. You must always remember that physical
appearance and economic class are unimportant in life. Things that are temporary
would not last forever, but being grateful and good person does. Therefore, don’t
let society standards determine your worth as an individual.
