What makes an effective speech?

Watch the speech examples provided below. What is it that makes them successful? How do they engage their audience? How
do they achieve their purpose (to persuade/ inform/ advise/ warn/ motivate)? How do they organise their ideas clearly?

Challenge: Can you find your own examples of effective speeches?

What can I talk about?

You can choose any topic you like! The key is to choose a topic you are passionate about and can explore at length.

If you love playing sport, or have a particular hobby or interest, why not inform your audience about it and show off a few skills?
Consider your chosen Option subjects; you could discuss a particular topic you enjoyed or wish to explore further. A good
starting point is to think about things you LIKE and are PASSIONATE about as this will show in your presentation! Conversely,
things you dislike, or are opposed against, can also make an interesting speech!

If you are aiming for a distinction, it’s worth choosing a topic which allows you to discuss the topic in detail. For example: The Nature v Nurture
debate, a key person in society/history, the evolution of gender. You can find some more examples here:
