FAMILY BACKGROUND

My grandfather, the late Surg. Cmdr. G. E. J. Burby served as a doctor in the Indian navy till
he retired in 1962. My grandmother, the late Mrs. Norma Lucy Burby was a home maker.
My maternal grandfather the late Mr. E. G. Woodman retired as the Chief Mechanical Engineer
of the central railways in 1977. He was nominated to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly a
nd served eminently for two successive terms to represent the needs of the Anglo-Indian
community in the state. My grandmother, Mrs. T N Woodman is alive and well. She lives with
us at our home in Pune.

My father, Col Allan F Burby served the Indian Army for 22 years. He then joined Tatas in 1999.
He is with Tata Sons Ltd. currently as the lead consultant for business ethics for the Tata group.
My mother, Mrs. S J Burby has been a homemaker all of her married life. She graduated in
Economics from Elphinstone College in Mumbai. My sister is currently pursuing her
Master’s degree.
