DUAL DIPLOMA PROGRAM - STUDENT ACADEMIC POLICIES

LATE WORK POLICY

As a student in the Dual Diploma Program, you are expected to turn in all assignments on time. Due dates
will be posted in your course at the start of each semester for your reference. Should you fall behind in your
course work, when an assignment is 5 days late, you will be issued a zero and given a retry option. There are
NO retries allowed for the Burlington English modules in English I and English II.

ACADEMIC GRADE POLICY

Only through continuous communication can students be successful in an online course. Within each course
the instructor outlines the weekly minimum work requirements. It is essential that the student and instructor
maintain regular contact.

All students are required to adhere to the following statement upon registration:

“I acknowledge that during the first five (5) days of each semester of being enrolled in my course(s), I may drop the
course without penalty. This provision shall not apply if I have already started working in my course(s) for said
semester. I understand that for each online course there are a minimum number of assignments that must be completed
each week. Failure to submit the minimum number of assignments on a weekly basis may result in my removal from
the Dual Diploma Program.”

Should you not meet the minimum weekly work requirements, your grade may be negatively affected.
Students in the Dual Diploma Program are expected to maintain a certain grade percentage over the course
of the semester in each class which they are enrolled. Should a student’s grade drop below a 59% - “F”
and/or if a student does not submit the minimum number of assignments required, we will follow a three
part intervention process.

1. If your grade drops below a 59% in any class or if you do not submit the expected number of
assignments according to the course calendar, the student, parent, and Program Director will
receive an email from the instructor offering assistance and outlining the necessary steps to raise
your grade. Your teacher will also request that you contact them on Skype during office hours.

2. If you do not respond to your teacher, begin submitting an acceptable number of assignments
each week, and have still not raised your grade, you will receive an email from an academic coach
reiterating the necessary steps to bring up the grade.

3. If you still do not respond to the formal email, submit an acceptable number of assignments
according to the course calendar, and raise your grades, you may be placed on Academic Watch
and can be Academically Withdrawn from the Dual Diploma Program at the end of the
semester.

Grade Point Average Minimum Cumulative Overall GPA of 2.0 on 4.0 scale
Every letter grade has a point value. When calculating your Overall GPA, we use the following point system:

A (90-100 %) 4.00
B (80-89 %) 3.00
C (70-79 %) 2.00
D (60-69 %) 1.00
F (0-59 %) 0.00

You can calculate your Overall GPA using the following steps:

• Multiply the grade points corresponding to each completed enrollment by the number of credits the
course is worth
• Add those numbers together
• Divide that total by the number of credits completed to date.

For example: A student that has completed the following courses to date and has obtained the following
grades:
Courses Letter Grade Points Credits Points x Credits
Attempted Attempted
English I A 4.00 1 4.00
United Stated History D 1.00 1 1.00
U.S. Government A 4.00 0.5 2.00
U.S. Economics C 2.00 0.5 1.00
Criminology B 3.00 1 3.00
Totals 4 11.00

• We multiply each completed enrollment grade points by the number of credits the course is worth
and add all these values together (11)
• Then we divide that number (11) by the number of credits completed to date (4)
• The Overall GPA is 2.75

Your Overall GPA is recalculated each year to include the new courses you have completed.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY

When submitting assignments, it is important to make sure that you are submitting your own work. If you are
caught plagiarizing on any assignment, you will receive a zero! In addition, we understand that you might
work with a classmate on some of the written assignments, please make sure that all work submitted is your
own. If you are caught copying from another student, you and the other student will both receive a zero for
that assignment! A variety of consequences will be administered when students are caught cheating or
plagiarizing. These consequences range from resubmission of an assignment up to expulsion from the
program.

To avoid the plagiarizing, please be aware of the tips below:

1. When using additional resources (various websites, other books, etc.), it is important that you do
not copy and paste. You can cite those sources and summarize them in your own words.

2. When working with a classmate please make sure to write your answers in your words. Do not
copy answers for any submitted work from other students.
