Software Upgrade
Your system must be at v3.5 or higher prior to updating to v3.6.0-0.2082.0. See earlier Release
Notes for upgrade information of earlier versions.
Notes:
• The v3.6 update process may take 30 minutes or more due to uploading of new map tiles.
• When updating an Active / Standby server pair, the Active server must be updated first. Refer
to the nGeniusPULSE Standby Server User Guide for more information.
To upgrade to v3.6:
1. From the nGeniusPULSE UI, navigate to Administration > System > General.

2. Select the button, which allows you to upload the new software
version. The upgrade is automatically installed once the upload finishes, and the upgrade
is pushed out to all provisioned Collectors once it has been successfully installed on the
manager. If you wish to upgrade Collectors independently of the Server, you can install the
software upgrade on each collector before installing the upgrade on the Server. The
Collector software upgrade file can be found at my.netscout.com (select nGeniusPULSE >
Licensing and Downloads, and then the Product Version).

Notes
o After the software update completes, the system will automatically reboot. DO NOT initiate a
reboot manually. The reboot performs some selinux operations and may take 10-20
minutes longer than normal. Do not interrupt this process. After the reboot completes (the
system responds to pings) it may take up to 10 minutes for all services to be running
normally. External Collectors will update themselves after the server has finished updating.
o In some instances, Collectors in a distributed system may not be automatically upgraded
when the server is upgraded. You can verify your Collector version at Administration >
Collectors. You can verify your Server version by hovering your mouse cursor on the
nGeniusPULSE logo in the top left corner of the web page.

If this occurs, you can manually upgrade your Collector software. Refer to Knowledge Base
article KB000013895 at
https://my.netscout.com/mcp/support/pages/viewarticle.aspx?ano=000013895.
o If server port HTTP:80 was blocked in either the firewall or nginx, it will be open after the
upgrade. Redirected HTTP:80 to HTTPS will continue after the upgrade.
o If the system fails to complete an upgrade and locks up, you can restart the system by
doing the following:

SSH to the nGeniusPULSE server and run the following commands:

/opt/ngp/appliance/ngp-stop.sh
/opt/ngp/appliance/ngp-start.sh

o If you are upgrading the system from a PC that is not in the same data center as the
nGeniusPULSE server, the upgrade may fail because of timeouts. If so, you can manually
upgrade the server. SSH to the nGeniusPULSE server and run the following command:
ngp-deploy-upgrade
and use the nGP- v3.6.0-0.2082.0.tar.gz file, which you can download from
my.netscout.com / Licensing and Downloads. Refer to the “nGeniusPULSE Command Line
Interface Reference Guide” for more information. It can be found at my.netscout.com /
Technical Documentation or a link to the document can be found in Appendix >
nGeniusPULSE Technical Documention of online Help.
o An upgraded version of the nPoint software will be available when the server software is
upgraded. If you wish to upgrade the software on your nPoints, sign in on the nGeniusPULSE
application and go to the nPoint Administration page. If new software was installed, an
information message will be displayed showing that your nPoints can be upgraded. You can
then select the nPoints you wish to upgrade and click the UPDATE button.
