nPoint 2000H

User Guide

The NETSCOUT nPoint 2000H is a test device that can be used in conjunction with the NETSCOUT nGeniusPULSE
system for testing network applications on wired interfaces. It supports a single Gigabit Ethernet
(1000/100/10BASE-T) copper port for wired testing.

A nPoint can support up to 100 Service Tests running on the nGeniusPULSE system.

Installation and Use
To deploy, plug your nPoint 2000H into an active network Ethernet port that supports PoE (Power over Ethernet. If
PoE is available, the unit powers on automatically.

Note: The batteries are for demonstration purposes only. To power on a nPoint 2000H without PoE, press and hold the
green power button for two seconds, then release.

All LEDs illuminate yellow for 15 seconds while the nPoint 2000H powers on. Next, the unit attempts to connect, and
the LED icons illuminate in the following order:
• PoE - If the nPoint is running on PoE, the PoE light illuminates GREEN. If on batteries, the Power light stays
YELLOW. If the batteries are low, the light turns RED.
• Link - The Link status light flashes GREEN until a link is established and then stays solid GREEN.
• DHCP/IP - The nPoint requests an IP Address, and the DHCP light flashes GREEN. If a usable IP address is
acquired, the DHCP light turns solid GREEN. If no IP address can be acquired, it turns RED.
• Gateway - The Gateway status light flashes GREEN until it connects with the gateway. If successful, it turns
solid GREEN. If the nPoint cannot reach the gateway, the light turns RED.
• Server Connection - Finally, the nPoint attempts to connect to the nGeniusPULSE server and claim
automatically. Once claimed, the LED illuminates GREEN. If the light turns YELLOW, the unit is connected to
the server, but not yet claimed. In this case, you must manually claim your nPoint 2000H to the correct
server.

nPoints that are added into the same broadcast domain as your nGeniusPULSE server may be automatically
discovered (depending on configuration). For more information on using nPoints with nGeniusPULSE, refer to
the nGeniusPULSE online help topics Getting Started > What is an nPoint and Administration > Monitoring
> nPoints.
