Stable Rules

for
Boarders & Students

General Rules

1. Stable Hours are Sun up to Sundown. You are to be picked up by dark, Stable is not to
hang out after hours. ____________(parent) __________(student)
2. Ride at your own risk!
3. Wear clothing appropriate for work around horses. Appropriate riding attire should be
used when in lessons. Ex. Breeches, jeans, boots, chaps & helmets must be worn.
Shirts should be fitted or tucked in. Hair should be neatly tucked up in your helmet, or in
a pony tail.NO undergarments should show. See management for questions.
4. No foul language. [ For definition of foul word(s), please see management.]
5. Pick up your garbage and put in trash can.
6. No smoking outside of your own vehicle and no alcoholic beverages on HVEC, LLC
premises. (unless approved by management)
7. Clean your grooming space before leaving it. A chore may be assigned for messes left
behind.
8. No Running around horses. Small children must be watched at all times.
9. Do not ride horse through Stable. Get on and off outside of Stable.
10. Watch your non-riding children- they are not to run free around the barn/horses, wash
areas, or pastures! There is a designated area for small children on front porch and front
yard.
11. Please keep gates closed and latched properly at all times.
12. You may watch lessons, but please do so quietly without interrupting the students or
instructor.
13. While riding in arena, please indicate inside or outside when passing another rider.
Riders in lessons always have priority of the ring. Boarders may ride in the arena at the
same time, but please be courteous to the students having the lesson, i.e., don’t ride in
the same space or get in the way of the circles, poles or jumps.

Horse and Rider Safety & Health

1. Owners, riders, workers and/or students must not to rely on HVEC, LLC insurance
policies. Please be sure that you, your equine, and/or other parties present are properly
covered. Including personal property like expensive saddles and tack etc. are not
covered by theft under HVEC, LLC policies.
2. No horse is to be tied to stall bars. With management’s permission, please install correct
cross ties or single ties in your stall.
3. No one is to ride without a signed release form by parent/guardian.
4. Always walk horses back to barn when coming back from pasture rides.
5. No glass containers in grooming, bathing, or riding area.
6. Except during western competition, anyone 18 years or under is required to wear an
ASTM/SEI approved helmet while mounted. All riders in lessons and all riders jumping
are required to wear helmets. Other riders are requested to wear a helmet while an
instructor is teaching a lesson in their presence. Not adhering to these rules may warrant
expulsion from HVEC, LLC.
7. Lead Horse with lead rope ALWAYS/ Keep halter and lead together.
8. Never leave horse unattended in cross tie area.
9. Clean up your horses manure as soon as your horse does it! NOT later, NOT after you
ride!
10. Approved gear; ex. ASTM/SEI approved helmets, vests, along with competent grounds
person, are required to school or to show on Cross Country Course.
11. Absolutely NO dogs, including barn dogs allowed in arena. The command is OUT to
dogs.
12. All dogs except resident barn dogs must be on a leash. They must stay out of the
lounge, bathroom, and tack room. If agreed upon by management, dogs that get along
with resident dogs & do not bother horses/cows may be unleashed at owner’s own risk
when the owner is NOT mounted. Any damages caused by your dog, you are
responsible for.
13. No racing or galloping in pasture….*No jumping without permission* Must ask an
instructor every time you go to practice jumping and cross country.
14. Do not ride anyone else’s horse without permission! When given permission you must
tell HVEC, LLC coordinator, an instructor, or management. EVERY time you ride said
horse. This is for safety so HVEC, LLC is aware of what all horses are doing and when
ridden.
15. Do not feed any horses feed/hay belonging to the Stable, horse have delicate digestive
systems and can become sick if fed extra feed/hay.
16. You must sweep “hair/dirt” from wash/grooming area and any “manure” before you turn
on any water!
17. Do not wash debris down drain-you will have to help clean it out if you rinse unwanted
things down drain pipe.

Tack & Equipment

1. Horse blankets must be clearly marked with horse’s name. Please keep blankets/ tack,
grooming area picked up.
2. Pick up what you use and put it back including grooming supplies, and anything else you
have used.
3. Borrow equipment ONLY upon consent of the owner. Return in the same condition or
replace if damaged. Please let me know if you break something so I can help you
replace it.
4. Ask permission before permanently adding and/or removing hardware to a stall or tack
locker. No personalizing stalls or tack lockers on outside except approved name plates.
5. Lost and Found is located in the trunk in the foyer.
6. All lesson students must clean a saddle and bridle one time per month before/after a
lesson or other arranged time.
7. It is your responsibility to provide a combination lock for your personal tack closet.
Combination must be on file with HVEC, LLC.
8. You are allowed one tack trunk outside of your personal horses stall, but trunk must
close with all items inside. NOTHING STORED ON TOP.
