State the kind of figures of speech used in the following sentences and support
your choice
1. The river ate the bank away.
--> This sentence is a personification which means the river destroyed the
bank.
2. This man is a beast
--> This sentence is a metaphor which means this man is ugly or evil.
3. We now live under the same roof.
--> This sentence is a metonymy which means we now live together .
 This sentence is a synecdoche which means we now live in the same
house.
4. The captain was in charge of one hundred horses.
--> This sentence is a synecdoche which means the captain was in charge
of one hundred crewmen.
5. The camel is the ship of the desert.
→ This sentence is a metaphor which means the camel is a means of
transportation in the desert.
6. Life is as tedious as a twice-told tale. : cuộc sống chán như câu chuyện kể 2

→ This sentence is a simile which means life is boring, nothing new.
7. She has many mouths to feed.
→ This sentence is a synecdoche which means she has many people to feed.
8. I’ve never read Shakespeare in my life.
 This sentence is a metonymy which means I’ve never read
Shakespeare’s works in my life.
9. When you take that course, plan to study thirty hours a day.
 This sentence is a hyperbole which means when you take that course,
plan to study a lot.
10.My dormitory room is like a cave.
 This sentence is a simile which means my dormitory room is small and
uncomfortable.
