DNA 1: A Mission to fulfill : Make Disciple

“Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ.”–Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Matthew 28:16-20,
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17
When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and
said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you
always, to the very end of the age." NIV

1. COMMON MISSION

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,...

- The word “go” came from the Greek root word poreuomai (por-yoo'-om-ahee) means
“journey”. Therefore, discipleship is not a “one time” event, it is a journey. Let’s look at how
the “discipleship journey” works best.

- The Greek word used in Matthew 28:19 is matheteusate or “make disciples” in English not
mathetes or disciple. What’s the big deal? A lot of believers focused on the word disciples but
they missed the word “make” which matters a lot in the command of Jesus. Therefore, ang
disciples ay “ginagawa” hindi “nginangawa” lamang. Don’t just wish for it, work for it.
Intentional discipleship is what the church needed the most.

- Indeed, the church must be a manufacturer of disciples. The moment the manufacturer stops
“making” its product, is a sure sign of bankruptcy. When the church stops making disciples,
crisis and closure is highly possible.

2. CLEAR METHOD

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all
your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love
your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two
