There are many types of implants: -

1- Implant drug delivery.

Subdermal Contraceptive Implant Package shall be paid at Php 3,000 per case.
2- Implant devices.

Pacemaker price in the Philippines can range from Php 101,000 to Php
300,000 or more depending on the length of stay in the hospital and the
device type.
3- Implant support.

For artificial hips In

the Philippines, the cost of hip replacement surgery can range
from Php 300,000 to Php 750,000 or more depending on where you will have
it done

4- Dental implants. It can range from P10,000 to P100,000. The cost of the procedure depends
on your dentist or the dental clinic.
ADVANTAGES OF IMPLANTS
 • Controlled drug delivery for over a long time.

 • Improve patient compliance.

Targeted drug delivery

 Bypass first pass metabolism.

 • Decrease side effects.

• Improved stability of drugs.

• Improve availability of drugs.

DISADVANTAGES OF IMPLANTS

• Mini-surgery is needed (Painful).

• Uneasy to simply discontinue the therapy.

• Local reactions (allergic reactions)

. • Inadequate release.

ADVANTAGES OF IMPLANTS

Implantable drug delivery devices offer

 • Controlled drug delivery for over a long time.
several advantages over conventional oral or parenteral dosage forms. First,
implantable devices allow site specific drug administration where the drug is most
needed. Examples include implants used in the treatment of brain tumors (Gliadel®
wafer) or prostate cancer (Lupron® depot). This may also allow for significantly
lower doses of drug which can minimize potential side effects. Second, implantable
devices allow for sustained release of a therapeutic agent, as highlighted in the
accompanying illustration (Figure 1).
 • Improve patient compliance.

Advantage is patient compliance, as the treatment regimen associated with an

implantable device is generally less burdensome than pills or injections.
Targeted drug delivery

Targeted local delivery of drugs at a constant rate

Advantages of Implants
 Unattended continuous delivery within the therapeutic window
 Avoids the highly variable peak and trough concentrations
 Enhanced drug efficacy Minimized side effects
 Termination of therapy as and when required
 Patient compliance is also a benefit of continuous dosing with these implants as they
operate for a long period of time once implanted.

Disadvantages of Implants
 The reaction between host and implant.
 Implantation procedure is difficult in the case of larger implants.
 Inadequate release of API.
 Requires small surgery for large implantation & painful.
