⮚ The Biography of St. Augustine after Conversion.

1
⮚ What is the City of God according to Augustine?
The City of God was one of the most influential works of the middle Ages.
St. Augustine's famous theory that people need government because they are
sinful served as a model for church-state relations in medieval times.

⮚ What does St. Augustine say about the desire to know God?
Augustine describes man's natural desire for God? "We can forget or try to
suppress our desire to know God, but it is always there, whether we recognize it or
not. As St. Augustine God wants us to live in communion with him and so he reaches
out to us and enables us to find him.

VI. Learning activities:

⮚ How did St. Augustine convert?

In late August of 386, at the age of 31, having

heard of Ponticianus's and his friends' first reading  of the
life of Anthony of the Desert, Augustine converted to
Christianity. As Augustine later told it, his conversion
was prompted by hearing a child's voice say "take up and
read" (Latin: tolle, lege).

⮚ Why it is so hard for Augustine to change his life what finally causes his return or
conversion to Christianity?

He would follow various philosophers, only to become disillusioned with their

teachings. For nine years he was associated with the Manichean sect. But he
gradually became aware that Manicheism was unable to provide satisfactory
answers to his probing questions.

VII. Assessment:

Journal Writing

In the life of St. Augustine what part of his life gave you a
good lesson that will guide you in your life?

The part of St. Augustine life that gave me a good lesson that will guide
me in my life is it’s never too late to change your life. this part that St.
Augustine from a sinner he changes his life to obey and turn away his
sin for the God and he became a saint. This part of St. Augustine gave
me a lesson in life that You don't have to be stuck in the shuffle, trapped
in errors, worries, and anxieties. You don’t have to hold your pain and
have it in a small jar in your life, to hang on to your rage and sorrow.
You're more than just a little jar, waiting for unsatisfactory stuff, shallow
affection, addictions, vices, and many more negatives that make you
feel emptier. You're more than the little container you feel describes the
person you are, so much so you strive to blend within its glass walls and
not overflow within its edges. Always remember that_______________

“God's plan is always the best. sometimes the process is painful and
hard but don’t forget that when god is silent, he's doing something for
you.”

Let God turn your life into a new person by changing how you think.

⮚ Confession was St. Augustine’s autobiography – written in the form of a

prayer. How would you write yours?

'We have sinned and done wrong, Lord, the glorious and amazing God, who

maintains his bond of loyalty with us who love him and obey his

commandments. We became evil and rebellious; we turned away from your

orders and your laws. We have not listened to the prophets, your servants,

who have spoken in your name to our kings, our princes, our fathers, and all

the people of the country.
