Civil engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering, and it deals with design,

construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment. I chose civil

engineering as my profession for the following reasons. Firstly, because this profession is highly

in demand is Saudi Arabia, as civil engineers are responsible for the construction and

maintenance of many things we use and need in our daily biases. Secondly, for the reason that

this profession will allow me to make a difference into peoples’ lives, and improve the living of

the community. Furthermore, I am interested in this field, for I love math and physics, and I have

always been fascinated by how buildings and structures hold up and do not collapse.

Certificates and/or licenses required for 1-2 students this should be one paragraph

To practice civil engineering, you can get a certificate from the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE)

to increase your job opportunity. The SCE is a professional body administered by the Ministry of

Commerce and Investment of Saudi Arabia. It was established to raise the standard of

engineering education, enhance the capabilities of engineers, and encourage the research and

innovation of all fields of engineering. Furthermore, getting a license from the National Council

of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) will allow you to practice this profession

in the United States of America and other countries.

Specific education and experience required for 1-2 students this should be one paragraph

To be able to get the SCE certificate, it is required to at least have a Bachelor’s degree in

engineering and pass the exam that is in cooperation with QIYAS. For NCEES, there are two

different licenses. To get the first license you need to have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering,

and pass the FE-FS exam. To get the second license you also need to have a Bachelor’s degree in

engineering, and pass the FE-FS exam, in addition to that you need to have a practical experience

in the same discipline not less than 4 years after graduation, and pass the PE-PS exam. In order

for me to get this certificate/license, I first need to fulfill the requirement, and for that I will get a

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University (PMU), and

I will work in companies such as Saudi Aramco to gain practical experience.

Short- term goals for 1-2 students this should be one SMALL paragraph goals for 2-3
years
My short-term goals: I want to focus on my courses in Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University

(PMU), have some practical experience through the internship to better understand the nature of

civil engineers’ profession, and graduate as a civil engineer from PMU with honor in 2022. I also

want to take extra engineering courses (apart from the university courses) to gain more

knowledge. Furthermore, after graduation from university, I will apply for the exam of the Saudi

Council of Engineers (SCE) to get the certificate.

Long-term goals for 1-2 students this should be one SMALL paragraph goals for 5-7 years

My long-term goals: after graduating from university and getting the (SCE) certificate, I want to

work at a company as a civil engineer for at least four years to gain experience. So then, I will be

able to get the license of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying

(NCEES) that will then allow me to work abroad.

Conclusion: for 1-2 students this should be one SMALL paragraph

Civil engineering is a branch of engineering that deals with design, construction, and

maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment. I chose this profession because it is

highly in demand, because of the nature of work, and because I want to make a difference into

peoples’ lives. To practice civil engineering, you only need a Bachelor’s degree; however,

getting a certificate from the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) will increase your job

opportunity, and license from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying

(NCEES) will allow you to practice this profession abroad.
