Objective

Synthesis/Analysis
The poem, in twelve lines of rhyming couplets of
iambic tetrameter verse, describes what Kilmer
perceives as the inability of art created by
humankind to replicate the beauty achieved by
nature. Kilmer is most remembered for "Trees",
which has been the subject of frequent parodies
and references in popular culture.
Assessment /Evaluation
Ask students the following questions:
1. What is the poem about ?The poem that
is lovely as a tree
2. Does the poem tell the importance of
trees in our environment?How? The tree
is attached to the ground to get it's
nutrients ( stanza 2says so) it indirectly
says that trees beautify our sorrounding

4. What is the theme of the poem Trees?
the poet expresses his attitudes of
pessimism and envy which then
changes to admiration for the trees.
The themes of immortality, age and
renewal are explored through
imagery, metaphor, and repetition
which conveys Larkin's attitudes
towards the immortality of the
trees.And also Joyce Kilmer poem ,
Trees , celebrate the beauty of the
natural world by comparing trees to
poem .A spiritual element develops
theme of the poem , which is God's
relationship in lines 5&6
